The purpose of proper nouns, or names, is to identify places, people and objects, so that others know who, where and what we are talking about. It works both ways of course. This bus belonged to Halton District Transport. Anyone know where Halton is? Or Hyndburn, or Fylde? These became the official, administrative, names of Widnes, Accrington and Blackpool following the calamitous 1974 reorganisation of local government.

The bus, a Leyland-engined Bristol RESL with East Lancs 42-seat dual-door body had been delivered to Widnes Corporation in 1971. The unsightly box for the route number blind must be a later addition I should think. I don't remember taking the photograph and must have thrown the original away, but it was certainly taken on Saturday 18th March 1978.

That excellent confection, Messrs Rowntrees' "Kit-Kat", still came in a foil wrapping. I don't think I've bought one since the impregnable new packaging was introduced. All the tactile pleasure of slipping off the sleeve and running one's thumbnail along the interstices between the "fingers" to penetrate the foil was taken away.

The wedding of Ali Elley and Matt Redmond. I was honoured to be asked to capture their big day.â¨â¨The ceremony took place at the Bristol Registry office. After the ceremony I asked the new couple and their guests over to Castle Park where I shot the group formal images. The church and garden area in Castle Park make for a much nicer (& less busy) location for these shots. Also, as the day had become very sunny (contrary to all indications and the weather reports), the trees and buildings there would provide some shade from the harsh light.â¨â¨An early afternoon reception was held at Racks Bar and Kitchen at Clifton Hotel. This is a really nice venue which actually looks like it used to be the cellars of an old Georgian mansion.â¨â¨After the early reception I stole the bride and groom away for a little break from the party and to get some more relaxed portraits of the couple. We only went a short way up the road as there are some great backgrounds nearby with lovely brick and rock walls as well as a spiky iron gate. Another great thing about this area was that the Victoria Rooms are just nearby and made for a great backdrop as well.â¨â¨After we had finished some portraits we headed back to Racks and prepared for the evening reception (more partying!!). This was followed by the couple's first dance.â¨â¨All in all it was a great wedding and I am happy to have been a (small) part of it.

The development of the Object 416 started at the Construction Bureau of Factory No. 75 in the fall of 1949. The blueprint was developed by March 1950. Due to technical problems with the turret, a working prototype was not ready until April 1952. Improvements were made, and another prototype was built in the summer of 1953, but the vehicle never entered mass production.

I wish I had asked our knowledgeable tour guide to explain this object to me when we visited the Friday Mosque in Yazd, but I didn't. It stands in the open space in front of the Friday Mosque.

If any viewer knows its purpose, please let me know.

The Friday Mosque is said to date to the 14th century, so this object could be quite old.

Yazd, Iran.

An object I designed for use with an iPad and the app 'camera lucida'. The app allows the user to see and image on the iPad screen and a surface below at the same time.

I think this ones looks abit like a fish.

Received this book for Christmas and have just finished it. It is the new ghost story from Susan Hill.

I am not much interested in supernatural as fact but love it as fiction.

It is a lovely little hardback and the design evokes the very best atmosphere of Victorian ghost stories past ~ though this has a modern setting.

The descriptions of the derelict house that starts the whole tale off have got me hankering after some urbexing.

Don't ask me why if I don't believe how I can be so affected by and attracted to the 'spirit' of the past but I always have been.
