Behold, the southern California "wasteland." I miss the wilderness, even though it is hotter than usual. The dog days were meant to be over; then suddenly, the strong high pressure aloft parts the clouds, allowing more sunlight to beat down upon the wasteland. This would subsequently lead to less rainfall once again.
Once daylight savings hits, we can all be a bit more confident in the year's cool-down period.

The station staff at Royston, Herts did a good job in sweeping the snow off Platform 1. It was most unusual to get such a heavy snowfall as early as November. The following month saw further snowfalls, and we seemed all-set for a long and cold winter, but after Christmas the remainder of the 1981/82 winter was mild.
Royston was a busy interchange station during this era. The Great Northern electrification programme only took the wires as far as Royston, and through trains from Kings Cross to Cambridge ceased after 1977. Passengers were required to transfer from the Class 312 EMUs that had been introduced for these outer suburban services to complete their Cambridge journey on a DMU shuttle. This arrangement continued until the Royston-Cambridge section was belatedly electrified in 1987.

45 minutes after sunset the geomagnetic forces were visible to the naked eye here in Arizona. With some nudging from Photoshop I managed to bring some life into these underexposed images.

Grateful to Explore for choosing this image!!
Reprocessing some old jpg images with Topaz. I have simplified this image slightly, but the perfect reflection was very real -- the result of a thin skim of ice over the entire harbour, which, as the sun started to melt it, made it look like a mirror.
Thinking about the folks on the Outer Banks tonight, as Hurricane Dorian causes massive flooding on the low-lying islands. And of course, the Bahamas, where the devastation is even worse.

I just got back from a weeks vacation in Corolla on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Had a great time with some of my brothers and sisters.
I was able to break away a few times to take some photos. This was taken along a nature trail that ran along the shores of Currituck Sound. There were several nesting platforms for the Osprey to use along the trail. I just wish I had found this earlier than Friday.
