This was intended to be part of the Stand Up for Peace Challenge last week but it took me a bit to figure out :D It's about the best homage I could to the Indian Holi Festival. For those that don't know and in short it's basically a festival to celebrate love. After I thought about the challenge a bit, I got to thinking: standin up for peace is awesome, but even better if you just applied this to all aspects of your life. Stop hating on others and stop hating on yourself. If everyone took a grip more time putting others before their own insecurities, then maybe there would be no need to stand up for peace. Maybe we would already have achieved it.

Thanks for visiting, commenting and faving my photos. Its very much appreciated!

My previous post, which I called “To the Dark Side”, was of a tunnel leading under a busy street in Windsor, Ontario. Well, this photograph is from the other side of that tunnel, as the sun began to rise at John’s Pond. Sometimes the dark side turns out to be something beautiful.

This is the second of two tugs that assisted/followed the Carnival Liberty out of the Harbor on St. Kitts in the summer of 2015. I had to capture these (there was another almost twin) because I loved the colors, especially after the rain. They were so vibrant compared to some of the others we had seen on our trip. This one is the Anjanvel. She helped fuel my desire to find and capture tugs and other work boats wherever I go.

Happy Wall Wednesday ;-))

The male Vermilion Flycatcher has such a distinctive look. Probably has to do with the thick, black eye-line. Like the female is a busy little bee. So much fun to watch. Wish we could see this beauty further North.

Little bitty blues bird flies

And gray clouds, or white walls, or blue skies

We gon' fly, feel alright!"

The Beachcomber or ‘Stone Me’ and Others

I have over the years come across a few of these stone characters, and not only confined to the East Coast of England where I found the majority. They have been discovered in The States, France and Kent. A bit of a random order I know. Some have come home with me but in the main I have left them in situ. No stones were harmed in the making of these images and the ones who did come home did it willingly.

There has been a development, I have noticed faces looking at me embedded in other materials. I know, a bit left field. But I thought they needed to be identified. I haven’t yet seen any walls with ears but you never know. Is ‘Big Brother’ still watching?

I saw the clouds moving in, as the sun was about to set, the other evening and immediately started scrambling around looking for something to use as foreground interest. The only thing I could find was this old gate. I know it is just a gate, but I thought it turned out kind of nice!! Comments and constructive criticism are always appreciated. Have a great week.

Kuma comes first though

Dandelion parachute on a mirror with coloured paper above it. This is not easy to shoot, every movement made the parachutes move too !

I used the Raynox lens to get really close.

The other plants you passed up because

they were too prickly or

too ugly...

they were the safe ones.

Me, I am intoxicating

my beauty is transfixing.

You cannot resist admiring

or leaning in.

But, the joke is on you, fool.

Because I am going to eat you alive

Devour you like the carnivore I am

and eat your heart out first.

The other plants will watch in terror

In a way, they are weak of heart and spirit

They spend all their energy

trying to get you to trust them.

Yet, you fall prey to me!

Devoured like a sworn enemy

and yet, I have nothing against you

except maybe you should have heeded the words...

Don’t ever trust in the unkindness of beautiful strangers.

While storms and squalls were approaching from the west, this was the view on the other side, all sweetness and light. I'm always drawn to the dramatic, but found it hard to resist this beautiful late afternoon panorama. Not a soul about and clouds flying across, hard to beat really. The other side by Ron Sexsmith is fine.

Blue-gray gnatcatchers are, without a doubt, one of the most special and entertaining birds the US has to offer. With a pretty sky-blue back contrasting with a paler shade of blue, along with white and black, they boast what I think is one of the more underrated color combinations when it comes to Neotropical migrants, and I’m sure they know it because they sure like to flip those tails around (kidding, that’s a foraging technique). That isn’t the only thing about them that’s underrated; males are pretty great songsters too, emitting an intricate series of what is both their own little babbles and little phrases of other species songs. I even found yesterday that they are able to mimic new vocalizations on the spot. Unfortunately, these guys have the luck of returning earlier than the warblers, and they only get two weeks of fame before what many people consider the real show falls upon our forests. That’s okay, though- they get right to pairing up and nest-building and have fledged young by the end of June, so I think they couldn’t care less about how much attention we pay to them.

What others dreamed

Read, read, read, the soul forgets

the things that happened

Those that remain remain, the fictions,

feather flowers,

the solitary, human creations,

the dregs of the foam.

Read, read, read; will i be reading

tomorrow me too?

Will I be my creator, my creature,

I will be what happened?

I was wandering around the Evora garden during lunchtime and I spotted three peacocks resting. As I only have my 35mm lens with me I moved closer towards them. None of them moved. So, I got even closer and got down to their level for this picture.

Evora Public Park was built by the municipality between 1863 and 1867. The grounds where it is located were once part of King Manuel’s royal vegetable garden and S. Francisco Convent.

The garden was conceived by the Italian architect and set designer José Cinatti, who also coordinated its archeological and gardening work. His creation is intimately connected with the Romantic ideal of past gardens and also with the use of this space as a social one, of elite reunion and the classes starting to go up the social ladder.

Evora Public Garden covers an area of about 8.2ac (3.3ha) with a vast concentration of trees, mostly species brought from other places, colourful flowerbeds and small lakes.
