A flyer from the New York/New Jersey United Workers Organization lays out the case against cutting unemployment benefits and calls for a march on Washington.
The demonstration sponsored by the Unemployed Workers Organizing Committee attracted 1,000 unemployed to march from All Souls Church at 16th & Harvard Streets NW, down 18th St to the White House on March 5, 1977 to demand “no cuts in unemployment benefits.”
Jimmy Carter had just taken office as President and the unemployment rate was hovering around 9%. Carter proposed to cut 13 weeks of unemployment benefits and make another 13 weeks conditional those out of work accepting any job—including minimum wage jobs.
Marchers carried a letter to Carter that said in part, “Why do you represent the interests of the moneyed class while claiming to speak on our behalf?” The demonstration was organized by the Unemployed Workers Organizing Committee (UWOC) which had chapters in 33 cities at the time.
The United Workers Organization and UWOC were organized by the Revolutionary Communist Party, a group was formed as the protest movement of the 1960s and early 1970s began to ebb. The RCP grew out of the Revolutionary Union and upheld Marxism-Leninism-Mao Zedong Thought at its 1975 founding.

Finally, all my spices in good order. It brings a tear to my eye. :)
They are organized by cuisine; for example, oregano, basil, and rosemary are in the Italian bin. I don't use those spices just for Italian cooking but this method works for me. :)
Funny. I didn't remember, but found out via my map, that I've shot this same wall in june 2006, when I was new to Flickr.

As part of efforts to reduce the cross-border transmission of Ebola in West Africa, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is leading monitoring and outreach efforts along the Guinea-Mali border. Border surveillance along the key points of entry to Mali is essential to ensuring the country does not experience any new cases of the disease.
At checkpoints in Mali close to the border to Guinea, IOM staff register all cross-border travelers, take their temperatures, show them proper hand washing hygiene, and educate them on how to protect themselves against Ebola. A suspected case would immediately be referred to this nearby treatment unit for further assessment.

Village Jarang, Ghatanji Block, Dist. Yavatmal, Maharashtra, INDIA.
Vaishali Ganpat Chaudhary, 14, plays with her friends outside her Grand parent's residence in Jarang village. 14-year- old Vaishali Ganpat Chaudhari was studying in the sixth standard in Savargaon in Yavatmal district. She used to attend school regularly despite the discord at home. Vaishali's father is an alcoholic. Unable to bear the situation any further, her mother decided to walk out one day. She left her marital home, taking Vaishali with her and moved in with her parents in Jarang in Ghatanji block. The move dealt a double blow to Vaishali. Not only did it interrupt her education, the minor was forced to become a daily wage worker with her mother in order to make ends meet.
It was during one of her field visits that Sheetal Thakre, a child rights activist with NGO Vikasganga met Vaishali. When the young girl confided in her and told her that she wanted to return to school, Sheetal took up the issue with Vaishali's mother and grandfather. She convinced them to let her enroll in the school in Jarang by telling them that education would improve Vaishali's livelihood prospects and secure her future. Vaishali now attends class 5 in the village school. UNICEF with funding support from the IKEA Foundation has been working in Maharashtra in the districts of Jalna and Yavatmal since 2009 and Wardha since 2011 to eradicate child labour by rescuing children and facilitating the process of re-enrolling them in schools. This has been done by partnering with local NGOs that have a dense network of field coordinators - each one covers an average of 10 villages at the grassroots level. UNICEF India/2013/Dhiraj Singh.

Dentistry usually encompasses practices related to the oral cavity. According to the World Health Organization, oral diseases are major public health problems due to their high incidence and prevalence across the globe, with the disadvantaged affected more than other socio-economic groups.
The majority of dental treatments are carried out to prevent or treat the two most common oral diseases which are dental caries (tooth decay) and peridontal disease (gum disease or pyorrhea). Common treatments involve the restoration of teeth, extraction or surgical removal of teeth, scaling and root planing and endodontic root canal treatment.

46 Granite Street, Barre, Vermont USA • Located in the former Italian section of Barre, the Socialist Labor Party Hall is a two story flat-roofed brick structure with a gambrel-roofed single story rear hall. It is associated with Barre's rich ethnic heritage, specifically the vital Italian community that immigrated to Barre at the end of the 19th century. The building was constructed in 1900 by volunteers of the Italian community as a meeting hall for the Socialist Labor Party, a political group dedicated to social and labor reform. Its design reflects no particular architectural style, but its form does illustrate the building's function as an assembly hall. The exterior is simply ornamented with Barre granite details. The most important of these is a carved medallion depicting an arm bearing a hammer, the symbol of the Socialist Labor Party, and the initials SLP. – from the National Park Service's Travel Itinerary website.
The Socialist Labor Party Hall is significant for its association with socialist and anarchist politics, labor organizations, and Italian immigrant heritage in the early 20th century. Barre, Vermont played a central role in the history of Italian anarchism and militant unionism in the United States, and was the leading place were debates took place among anarchists, socialists, and union leaders over the future direction of the labor movement in America. The Socialist Labor Party Hall, as the primary site for these discussions, embodies the radical heritage and the strength of the union movement during the early 20th century. – from the National Park Service.
☞ On May 16, 2000, the National Park Service designated this structure a National Historic Landmark (#98001267).
National Historic Landmarks are nationally significant historic places designated by the Secretary of the Interior because they possess exceptional value or quality in illustrating or interpreting the heritage of the United States. Today, fewer than 2,500 historic places bear this national distinction. [And one of only 17 in Vermont.] Working with citizens throughout the nation, the National Historic Landmarks Program draws upon the expertise of National Park Service staff who work to nominate new landmarks and provide assistance to existing landmarks.
National Historic Landmarks are exceptional places. They form a common bond between all Americans. While there are many historic places across the nation, only a small number have meaning to all Americans--these we call our National Historic Landmarks. – from the National Park Service.
☞ This structure has also been listed on the National Register of Historic Places (#98001267), since 1998.

logo design for an organizational company. she coaches, and trains people to be more organized (with time and with their spaces).
the time management thing is a new aspect that she's doing more of.
i'd like feedback on both taglines, as well as layouts.
After spending far too much time sifting through larger bins looking for the right hair piece/facial expression/hat, I decided to subdivide the minifig parts into smaller compartments. I've done the same with the minifig tools/utensils, small foliage, animals, etc. (Clear storage containers obtained at a crafting store in the beads section).
Instead of just putting the stuff away, I'm unpacking EVERYTHING onto the floor and countertops to see what and how much I have, divide it into collections and decide if it will fit, where it should go in the triangle, and if it doesn't fit... WHERE THE HELL IS IT GOING TO GO?

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) set up a mobile clinic to provide basic healthcare services to the population of about 1400 people in Gbaigbon and neighboring communities in Bomi County, Liberia, who would otherwise be unable to reach a healthcare facility.
A team of one doctor, three nurses, and two ambulance drivers, who helped in screening the patients, treated close to 100 persons on the site, with some more severe cases being provided first aid and then taken to Bomi Hospital.
Dr. Nisar Ul Khak, Medical Coordinator for the IOM Ebola treatment unit in Tubmanburg, said “UNMEER helps in coordinating the agencies and NGO’s who are willing to support the mobile clinic.”

Organizations and elements from across Humphreys joined together to support the Juneteenth in South Korea's Juneteenth celebration here, June 19. The celebration featured remembrance reflections, a softball tournament, a leadership dunk tank, youth activities, and other events which brought the community together to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans.
The Fort A.P. Hill Family took a day off from work to have some fun during Organization Day on May 22. The day kicked off with a Memorial Day flag-raising ceremony to honor those who have fallen in battle. Next was a 5-kilometer run and walk at Beaverdam Pond.
As the day unfolded there was a spirited kick ball competition, a fishing derby, a climbing wall, canoe races, horseshoes and a tug of war. There was also a great lunch of grilled hot dogs and hamburgers, baked beans, potato salad, chips and watermelon for dessert.
The culmination of the day was the dunking booth where garrison commander Lt. Col. Peter E. Dargle and Command Sgt. Maj. Keith R. Whitcomb took turns getting dunked. It was all for a good cause, those who threw the balls to dunk the command team donated canned goods and other items to the A.P. Hill Food Bank.

Stop, Look, Listen was created by two professional artists and a team of youth artists as part of the Groundswell Community Mural Project’s flagship Summer Leadership Institute (SLI). SLI teams spend seven weeks during working with artists and community-based organizations, learning job skills and creating public art throughout New York City. This mural, created at the request of Brooklyn Community Board 7, focuses on traffic and pedestrian safety education, as well as site-specific themes and cultural diversity. The mural’s bold colors and graphic design make it a welcome addition to the neighborhood. At over 200 feet in length, the SLI team’s quick, careful, and detailed execution of this mural was a great accomplishment!
The safety education focus of this mural was informed by workshops lead by NYCDOT Safety Education. The artists and youth artists researched safety issues near the mural site which influenced their final design. Speed of vehicular traffic, high levels of carbon dioxide in the air, and the need for all modes of transportation to respectfully share the streets are just a few of the themes beautifully integrated in to this mural.

KABUL, 27 January 2016 - The UN’s support for a strong and independent Afghan media was reiterated by the Organization’s top envoy in Afghanistan, Nicholas Haysom, during consultations with senior editors and media professionals in Kabul today.
Mr. Haysom met with Afghan editors from radio, television and a news agency, as well as representatives of the Afghan Journalists Safety Committee, the Afghan Independent Journalists Association, South Asia Free Media Association for Afghanistan and Nai Supporting Open Media in Afghanistan.
The meetings provided a valuable opportunity for the UN to hear directly from journalists their concerns about media freedom.
Mr. Haysom reinforced that it was necessary for all steps to be taken to safeguard freedom of expression and journalists against those who seek to impose their views through violence. A media free from intimidation is an essential component of a healthy democracy.
International humanitarian law, which applies to all parties to the conflict in Afghanistan, prohibits attacks against civilians at any time and in any place.
