n July of 2002, the 1833 lighthouse in St.Andrews, was moved about 50 feet off its deteriorated foundation, for future restoration. Also known as Pendlebury Light, St. Andrews Light is the oldest lighthouse on New Brunswick’s mainland, and one of only nine remaining octagonal wooden lighthouses in the province.

The Pendlebury Lighthouse was restored by the St. Andrews Civic Trust, one the few lighthouses left in this area.

A shot through the peep hole of a cell door. This is a cell along the hallway of the first Kilmainham Gaol image.

Even children who were caught stealing food or for petty crimes were imprisoned in Kilmainham. The youngest documented prisoner was a five year old boy.

During the famine, people would commit petty crimes in order to get sent to Kilmainham. Once inside, they would be fed three meals a day. This created massive overcrowding and renovations had to be made to accommodate the numbers.

The Empire Antiques building at Paddington, Brisbane is the old Empire Cinema converted into little units displaying and selling a huge variety of antiques. As such it has a lot of internal walls to separate the units.

I thought this rather lavish mirror was rather a mystery, reflecting as it does one of the little alley ways spread throughout the complex.

Fire Bird Birth From Fiery Sun OR Flying Into A Dark But Bright Future?

(Better view: farm3.static.flickr.com/2601/3725094927_71be8c27be_b.jpg )

Is it the birth by fire of a new Fire Bird? Or a dark angel looming above, bringing misgivings? Or the power of dreams flying into a dark, monstrous, malevolent cloud formation -- just beyond which is the promise of pure light and brightness. And just beyond that, visions of God?

The thunder cloud's malevolence separated from the life-giving sun by the razor edge of hope and miracle. A possibility of coming out from storms into the light, however briefly, at least until the final sunset on a life of fantastic flights of fantasy.

Or a little bit of it all?

Smith Point Beach in Long Island, NY is a favorite place of mine to catch sunsets over expansive vistas of water. This time we were there ahead of time and I shot some pictures waiting for the sun to set.

As this bird came towards me, somewhat like the apparition of one Alexander the Great sees in the movie ALEXANDER, the silhouette came into focus. I clicked and snapped a mesmerizing image.

More or less the same picture in two variants. The first without light in the snow, the second with the bright sun on a frozen puddle.

Toy Project Day 3086

yay, orange collar!

Greg Brown and I took a trip out to shoot the Portland & Western Toledo Hauler last weekend. We were provided with a nice leisurely chase from around Elk City where we caught the train east to Albany where they tied down in the yard.

In the first shot of the day, the hauler works it way east through the fog along the Yaquina River.

A disappointing sunset yet again in the Lakes. One day I'll shoot the perfect sunset here and be so upset I've finally nailed it, queer life! 3-stop nd grad (h) and the Big Stopper

Thank you so much to L’Or from Morgan the Agency for coming down and working with us yesterday! Delight to work with and really did an amazing job whilst also giving some great advice! Top Lady!!

The meerkat or suricate, Suricata suricatta, is a small mammal belonging to the mongoose family. Meerkats live in all parts of the Kalahari Desert in Botswana, in much of the Namib Desert in Namibia and southwestern Angola, and in South Africa. A group of meerkats is called a "mob", "gang" or "clan". A meerkat clan often contains about 20 meerkats, but some super-families have 50 or more members. In captivity, meerkats have an average life span of 12–14 years, and about half this in the wild.

The meerkat is a small diurnal herpestid (mongoose) weighing on average about 731 grams (1.61 lb) for males and 720 grams (1.6 lb) for females. Its long slender body and limbs give it a body length of 25 to 35 centimetres (9.8 to 14 in) and an added tail length of 17 to 25 centimetres (6.7 to 9.8 in). Its tail is not bushy like all other mongoose species, but is rather long and thin and tapers to a black or reddish colored pointed tip. The meerkat uses its tail to balance when standing upright, as well as for signaling. Its face tapers, coming to a point at the nose, which is brown. The eyes always have black patches around them and it has small black crescent-shaped ears that can close to exclude soil when digging. Like cats, meerkats have binocular vision, a large peripheral range, depth perception, and eyes on the front of their faces.

On a clear morning in Vale, OR, OERR GP7 2182 awaits the call to duty.

Not sure if I like this pic or not. It’s certainly not the worst pic of me. But it got me thinking...I’ve always resisted the urge to photoshop my pics. I’ve never made myself look thinner or removed wrinkles etc. I’m happy to admit I do play around with lighting & the occasional filter, and I almost always crop the pics to make them look better. But I think photoshopping your pics so that the girl in the photo doesn’t reflect the real you, can only have a negative, not a positive effect on the person. I had a great conversation with my friend Marci Ansen the other day. We chatted about how we all have days where we feel like we are kidding ourselves that we look great or that we could remotely “pass”. We’re not always looking 120% fabulous every time we dress. Sometimes I look at myself and see a very glamorous forty-something woman, and other times I see an overweight, mid fifties 5’11” man in a dress. For all you closeted folk out there in Flickr land who see girls like me galavanting around in the real world looking fabulous & carefree in our photos, it’s not always this way. Imogen is (sadly) only a small part of my life, and sometimes I get it wrong. Sometimes my makeup looks dreadful, and I am tempted to throw it all in and try my best to erase my trans-self. If we’re honest, we ALL feel like this on occasion. It’s not just you.

Eagle Encounters is a wildlife rehabilitation, conservation, education and eco-tourism centre based at historic Spier Wine Farm near Stellenbosch, South Africa.

The birds that are used for education purposes cannot be released into the wild either because of permanent injuries or because they were imprinted on people before the were brought to the centre.

Watched this Cicada through the whole moult process. I'll post a video of the process shortly.

This little industrial was found just south of Oswestry close to Llynclys. I believe it must be part of the emerging Cambrian Heritage Railway.

Any identification or details would be welcome.

Courtesy of Rodent Badcock it looks like this is a Hudswell Clarke build number 1288 of 1967. Thanks for you details.

Standing on the Precipice (JHWatkins)

Standing on the precipice-

balanced at junctions,

space and time-

there are no excuses here

no explanations or rhymes.

Locked in lavish rhythm

far beyond the brink-

hid from help or rescue-

on jagged edge distinct.

Weighty voices-

tomorrows bearing-

form forces by the day...

Wound tight

in folds of failure-

by faltering historic foray.

Naked standing truth-

whirl winded and filleted-

open now -

body bleeding-

clean by choice-

ruthless rights parlayed.

Ring round the

restless righteous-

tormented tongues

twisted and advanced.

Weapons trained-

fitting filled-

hopelessness entranced.

New toys

for large little boys-

clicking clocks

in finest fashion.

Positioned perspective-

poisoned possessive power-

from places unimagined.

Whining women-

worn-out white wheezers-

talking days on end-

endless hours

of wasted words-

useless air-

precious spent.

Children torn

apart at seams-

families drugged

and drenched...

Callous toned

nightmares

running wild-

seeds scattered

in the wind.

Lost a generation dark,

aflame the fearless world-

tossed aside by

hellish schemes-

now rampant-

flags unfurled.

Gone-by green

and yearning years-

foundations

fairly laid-

Priceless pearls

in wisdom grown,

crown jewelry

on parade.

But new

the turning earth begins-

choice

once again delayed.

Come cold and calm

courageous men-

run boldly

to your fate.

And stand in earnest errand bare,

an era at the end-

Bind up yourselves

betrothed and braced-

to finish

without fear.

EXPLORE: October 27, 2011

Just in time for Halloween. We found this guy in Virginia City, Nevada last spring. He appeared to be the store greeter. One felt obligated to make a purchase as he he looked a bit psychotic. He had to be a very valued employee as he was wearing more than one hat. Virginia City, located just a short distance from Reno, Nevada was a very interesting small town to visit. Wishing you all a happy Friday and great weekend.
