Despite a cruddy day it was neat to see and photograph the Duluth and Superior Operation Lifesaver trains that were operated in conjunction with the Duluth and Superior police departments. They ticketed a number of drivers who ignored crossing lights.

The UP 8266 leads a westbound stack train over MacVicar Ave. in Topeka past a rather gruesome display from Operation Lifesaver. This is just a mile or so west of SJ Jct. on the ex-RI "Golden State Route," and they've had a number or grade crossings accidents there recently, so they've left this crumpled up hunk of a car there to let people know what could happen to them, should they choose to race the train to the crossing.
Amtrak 203, the Operation Lifesaver unit, leads the outbound California Zephyr into its station stop in Naperville, IL.

This is a shot I have posted on other sites but I want to "save" pictures on the Flickr site since it's better in so many ways. This is a shot that's possible only on mid-summer late afternoons when the sun comes around to the northwest. I was surprised in that there were only 4 other railfans at this spot since I thought this is not only the ideal place to be at this time but also one of the greatest train consists to come through the Twin Cities since 1971. Thanks to SRG for the heads up on the train and locations.
Caifornia Operation Lifesaver Train at Colton,CA on AT&SF on 4-23-87. The power would be re-arranged at LAUPT for the afternoon trip to San Diego over the SFe.
