CAT: A finals del segle XVI i, sobretot, als segles XVII i XVIII, es va popularitzar a Catalunya el consum generalitzat de neu i glaç natural, per conservar els aliments i, també, per refrescar les
begudes a l’estiu.
ser obacs i molt freds.

A black and white version of the Almenara Castle (Puebla de Almenara, Cuenca, Spain) photograph, taken just before sundown.
This is an impressive and highly evocative medieval stone fortress from the 14th century, strategically located in the mountains of the "Sierra Jarameña", also known as "Sierra de Almenara" (from the Arabic "manārah", "a place where there is light," noting its possible origin as a signal watchtower) near the town of Puebla de Almenara (Cuenca, Spain). Over time it passed through the hands of the Knights Order of Santiago, the Infante Don Juan Manuel and the powerful Mendoza family. In the sixteenth century, it belonged to the Princess of Eboli, Doña Ana de Mendoza, who had inherited from his father, Diego Hurtado de Mendoza. In the early 17th. Century there had already been testimonies indicating its abandoned, neglected and deteriorated state. Today, it is in a sorry state, a clear mark of inefficiency on the part of the responsible administration, highlighting the disdain for our historical heritage and the lack of zeal for its conservation from it.

These flowering plants are native to my area and grow wild. Found this one growing on my fence line. I like how my old Pentax-m 28mm f2.8 renders the bokeh of the flowers in the background.

With this shot it can't be denied that I have been in Firenze on summer holidays. This is one little sample of the pictures I have taken there.
Firenze is really a beautiful and astounding place to visit and doing street photography.
Taking a macro shot of the remains of my dinner on the plate the other night - as you do - I was surprised to see the patterns resembled mini worlds. It was a toss up between the Donovan song with this one but I settled on the Mike Oldfield.

The ex-Barney Oldfield, Eddie Maier 1908 BENZ 75/105HP PRINZ-HEINRICH Raceabout in a pointillist setting. I know this isn't for everyone, but I had fun anyway. Dappled light can be very colorful.
Karl Benz is credited with the creation of the first practical (and salable) car in 1886 and it had....
........drum roll........a 2/3 hp engine! He also designed the first practical bus, and also the first truck. Not bad and Benz continued through the war, until, under the pressure of the post war depression in Germany, joined with Daimler in 1926 to form Mercedes Benz.
Benz recognized the value of racing and speed records in advertising, and both the 'Blitzen Benz' of 1909 with it's outrageous 200 hp, and this 1908 Raceabout ended up in the US with Barney Oldfield's barnstorming team showing them off all over the US.
Hans Nibel and Georg Diehl at Benz in Germany conceived the idea of a sports car a little before the idea for the T-head Mercer Raceabout came into the fertile mind of Finlay Robertson Porter and the Roebling family in New Jersey. Its impetus was the Prince Heinrich Tour, a multi-day reliability trial through Germany, Hungary and Austria first staged by Hubert von Herkomer in 1907. Crown Prince Heinrich himself participated in the first Herkomer Tour in a Benz and in 1908 contributed its winning trophy (a 13.5kg silver automobile) and his name to the event.
Racing was in decline in Europe with the Gordon Bennett Cup retired by the French and the stamina and resources of automobile manufacturers were strained by the expense of building racing specials, retaining drivers and funding teams of cars, mechanicians and spares to contest only two or three events a year. The idea of a reliability trial that demonstrated the automobile's reliability and practicality, along with a few timed events to highlight performance was attractive. This very Benz was featured, and then sent to New York, where it was sold to Oldfield and his team.
Berna Eli "Barney" Oldfield was "The Speed King of the World" through much of the last century's first decades. A successful bicycle racer, he quickly transitioned to automobile racing. With his trademark cigar between clenched teeth, he took command of Henry Ford's "999" racer, the Winton "Bullet" and the Peerless "Green Dragon". A showman of consummate flamboyance, he nevertheless was also a driver of skill, daring and calculated strategy. Backed by his manager Bill Pickens, Oldfield barnstormed across America drawing crowds for whom any automobile was exotic, let alone one clocked at over 100 mph, a speed that many thought would result in the expiration of the human spirit – except for a superhuman like Barney Oldfield.
Oldfield would drive it between events and it was fully equipped with road equipment including fenders and lighting which were removed before the hippodromes. It is pictured in several period photos on track and in promotional appearances with sponsors.
M.Oldfield : Talk about your life
Walking Out In The Street Light, Midnight.
Whisper Wind, Catch Me In The Headlight.
Talk About Your Life, I'd Like To Know.
It's Not Easy Going Where No-One Goes,
And No-One Knows.
Do We Have To Be So Distant?
How Can You Be So Unreal?
What's The Reason For Hiding, And
How Does Crying Make You Feel?
I Can See You're Talking To Me In Riddles.
Do What You Like, You Go Where The Wind Blows.
Talk About Your Life, I'd Like To Know.
It's Not Easy Going Where No-One Goes,
And No-One Knows.
Do We Have To Be So Distant?
How Can You Be So Unreal?
What's The Reason For Hiding, And
How Does Crying Make You Feel?
I Reach For Certain Disguise That You're Leaving,
And I Can Tell By The Mist In Your Eyes That You're Dreaming.
Dreaming.
Do We Have To Be So Distant?
How Can You Be So Unreal?
In The Clouds, Running And Chasing Shadows.
In The Crowd, Frozen In The Window.
Talk About Your Life, I'd Like To Know.
It's Not Easy Going Where No-One Goes,
And No-One Knows.
Do We Have To Be So Distant?
How Can You Be So Unreal?
What's The Reason For Hiding, And
How Does Crying Make You Feel?

* Originally advertised under the name of 'Centenary Pullman' with the diesel legs to have been hauled by 55022 'Royal Scots Grey' and routed via Blackpool North.
In 1992, this bridge was pictured on the first 25 cent coin featured in a series to mark the 125th anniversary of the Confederation of Canada. At one time, there were 4000+ covered bridges in New Brunswick, Canada. Today, there are an estimated 58, in varying degrees of repair, and usage. I believe that I have 42 left to shoot. I reckon I can knock off 15-20 this summer, weather permitting.
Nothing But / Bridge To Paradise (Mike odlfield)
You will have nothing but love,
Nothing but hope, blue sky above.
You will find nothing but peace,
Nothing but the sun shining on your face.
[ chorus ]
When you open your eyes,
When you open your eyes.
You will feel nothing but free,
Nothing but trust, thats how it should be.
And one who cares about nothing but you,
Watching close by the whole night through.
[ repeat chorus ]
You will feel nothing but warm,
Nothing but shelter from the storm.
You will have nothing but rest,
Deep in your heart, nothing but the best.
[ repeat chorus ]
Nothing but love when you open your eyes.
Nothing but love when you open your eyes.
[ repeat chorus ]
Nothing but love when you open your eyes.
Nothing but love when you open your eyes.
[ repeat chorus ]
Nothing but love, nothing but love.
Nothing but love when you open your eyes.
Nothing but love when you open your eyes.
Ooh, nothing but love when you open your eyes.
Ooh, nothing but love when you open your eyes.
This Town Is Just A Fake
A Place Where You Can't Tell The Devil From Your Brother
Poisoned Every Breath You Take
It's Just Like One Nightmare After The Other
You Know, It's Not Too Late To Leave Tomorrow
'Cause I Know Where I'm Going
(Chorus)
I Am Building A Bridge To Paradise
I Am Building A Bridge To Paradise
This Town You Can't Control
A Place That Fascinates, Hits You With The Drama
Don't Worry Now For My Soul
'Cause I'm Heading For A Higher Panorama
You Know, It's Not Too Late For You To Follow
'Cause I Know Where I'm Going
(Repeat Chorus Twice)
You Know, It's Not Too Late For You To Follow
'Cause I Know Where I'm Going
(Repeat Chorus Twice)

Man In The Rain
Mike Oldfield
What's the use in hanging round these walls.
Lamps are burning, but nobody's at home.
There's a new day dawning as a cold rain falls
And now's the time to walk alone.
You can't stay, no, you can't stay.
You're no loser, there's still time to ride that train
And you must be on your way tonight.
Think anew right through, you're a man in the rain.
How's it feel when there's time to remember?
Branches bare, like the trees in November.
Had it all, threw it all away.
Now's the time to walk away.
You can't stay, no, you can't stay.
You're no loser, there's still time to ride that train
And you must be on your way tonight.
Think anew right through, you're a man in the rain.
How's it feel when there's time to remember?
Branches bare, like the trees in November.
Went back up to the Lowlands yesterday morning on the promise of heavy fog, and this time the prediction was correct.
The devestation in this area from the recent floods is heartbreaking.
Farmland flooded, furniture piled up outside gates, and the roads are a little worse for wear in some parts.
I shot this tree around the same time last year, and yesterday I decided to revisit it, and shoot it from down the other end of the road.
Hope you like “Man In The Rain”
Cheers, Mike

Oldfields, the former estate of the Josiah K. Lilly Jr., grandson of Colonel Eli Lilly, founder of Eli Lilly & Company. In 2002, the IMA completed the restoration of Oldfields–Lilly House & Gardens as the first phase of the IMA’s three-part, $220-million institutional expansion. At the center of Oldfields is the three-story Lilly House, a French-chateau-style mansion restored to the 1930s time period of the Lilly family occupancy. The estate also includes a formal garden, a tree-lined allée with border gardens, and a one-acre hillside ravine garden.
