The offers to gods and goddesses of Hindu beliefs, are often seen in the pretty petals, or the silvery or gold back coins that lay in their arms and laps. A divine wish and prayer in waiting.

EXPLANATION OF ART PIECE:

 

neal, my husband, has been having a problem with his eyes since october 2009. i have made him three shrines to "help" him. they seem to have worked as his 6 months of double vision are gone and his eye surgery is over and his eyes are now ok. but i want to make sure that no further problems befall him, so i made this (voudou) offering as stronger "help" to ensure a healthy year to come.

 

there are many tiny jewel stars on the dress of the woman that the girl is cradling in her arms. unfortunately i am not sure that the photograph of this offering allows you to see how they sparkle.

Back in Buenos Aires City we walked Defensa in Barrio San Telmo to our hotel.

 

The camera stuck its lens out for a shot of Ristorante il Nonno Bachicha (Grandfather Bachicha Restaurant).

 

Like many businesses in BA, Ristorante il Nonno Bachicha advertises using Fileteado style painting on their signage, windows and doors. This offering is minimalist Fileteado.

 

Fileteado is a type of artistic drawing and lettering, with stylized lines and flowered, climbing plants, typically used in Buenos Aires.

 

The fileteado porteño was born in Buenos Aires at the beginning of the 20th century as a popular decorative practice.

 

And this is the end of day 5 in Buenos Aires.

Roxas Boulevard is one of Manila's best known landmarks. Named Dewey Boulevard during the American colonial period, it was given its present name to honor the Philippines' first elected president, Manuel Roxas, after the country gained independence in 1946. Offering the most scenic drive in the whole of Manila, this 10-kilometer oceanfront boulevard goes past other landmarks such as Intramuros , Rizal Park and the Cultural Center of the Philippines . Hotels, museums, condominiums and office buildings line one side of the road, while an animated scene of strollers, joggers and hawkers can be observed along Manila Bay .

The Kumbh Mela (or Kumbha Mela) is a Hindu religious festival that is celebrated four times every 12 years in special locations in India.

 

The 2010 Kumbh Mela was on the Ganges in Haridwar, and the pilgrims came from all over, carrying kumbhs (water pots) or other containers to carry water from the sacred rivers home with them.

 

At the ghats on the river people prepare ritual offerings with which to worship the Mother Ganges.

The Erawan Shrine on the Sukhumvit Road may not be the biggest or most impressive in Thailand but it's still worth a visit for the juxtaposition it provides with the manic traffic and highrise buildings that surround it.

 

This shot of a man making a floral tribute was taken from the relative calm of a platform on the adjacent Skytrain.

From Wikipedia : "The Erawan Shrine, formally the Thao Maha Phrom Shrine (Thai: ศาลท้าวมหาพรหม; RTGS: San Thao Maha Phrom; "Shrine of Lord Brahma the Great"), is a Hindu shrine in Bangkok, Thailand, that houses a statue of Phra Phrom, the Thai representation of the Hindu god of creation Lord Brahma. A popular worship attraction, it often features performances by resident Thai dance troupes, who are hired by worshippers in return for seeing their prayers at the shrine answered.

 

On 17 August 2015, a bomb exploded near the shrine, killing 20 and injuring 125 more.

 

The shrine is located by the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel, at the Ratchaprasong intersection of Ratchadamri Road in Pathum Wan district. It is near the Bangkok Skytrain's Chitlom Station, which has an elevated walkway overlooking the shrine. The area has many shopping malls nearby, including Gaysorn, CentralWorld and Amarin Plaza.

 

Five other shrines dedicated to Hindu deities are located in the area as well: Phra Laksami (Lakshmi), Phra Trimurati (Trimurti), Phra Khanet (Ganesha), Phra In (Indra), and Phra Narai Song Suban (Narayana on his garuda)."

It appeared that the bird that had the dragonfly made an offering of some of the remains to the other bird. It wasn't impressed with the measly amount left and just flew off without accepting it.

Two hiker/photographers witnessed the breathtaking Tre Cime sunset in reverent silence. The only sound exchanged as the drama unfolded was the artificial "click" of camera shutters. Later, after the mountain lost its magical highlights, the two photographers lingered on the limestone shelf to catch the last light to the west. Standing several hundred feet away, I caught them in this distant interaction. Later, Alan explained that their silence was broken by an attempt to converse. Neither understood the other's language. No matter- the understanding was there. Alan's new friend from Germany offered him a brandy and they exchanged a toast beneath the setting sun.

 

Watching this from a distance, I knew I had observed an unusual and powerful moment of human connection.

During Chinese New Year, a row of offerings in tiny bowls will be made at home to the Godess of Mercy. The orange stuff that you see is dried persimmon.

 

Most of the stuff are sweet, since the chinese believe that starting the new year with something sweet will bring about sweetness later throughout the year.

 

Notice the red paper placed on top of all the contents in the bowls. Chinese believe that red is an auspicious colour.
