What would a beach be without Sea Oats!
Uniola paniculata, also known as sea oats, seaside oats, araña, and arroz de costa, is a tall subtropical grass that is an important component of coastal sand dune and beach plant communities in the southeastern United States, eastern Mexico and some Caribbean islands.
Its large seed heads that turn golden brown in late summer give the plant its common name.
Its tall leaves trap wind-blown sand and promote sand dune growth, while its deep roots and extensive rhizomes act to stabilize them, so the plant helps protect beaches and property from damage due to high winds, storm surges and tides.
It also provides food and habitat for birds, small animals and insects.

I went out last night not expecting very much but then the sun dropped below the rain clouds and it all took off from there
Taken at St Andrews State Park FL, near sunset. Really love how the setting sun changes the colors of the sand and even the water. God is amazing!
I went out last night back to this area,
The weather forecasters were saying about atmospheric conditions coming together to make last nights sunset even more spectacular so I popped out for sunset, photos to come.Last night was the first time in a week I have been out with the camera, I do suffer with hay fever and this past week has been a real pain with streaming eyes, but last night was too bad.
2026 FAFM Feb 15 O is for Oats
I make porridge 2 or 3 times a week, and it is just oats, milk, cinnamon and walnuts. Once cooked I drizzle on some honey and whatever fruit I fancy ... blueberries today.
And I normally add a bit more milk, but I wanted this to stand up in the bowl.
Although I grew up in the mountains of East Tennessee, I've always loved the coast (not that I don't still love the mountains too! ha!). This was shot on our hurricane-shortened beach week this year and I crammed as much photography into the few days that I could!

i've visited curry's electricals. of the three possible freestanding electric cookers non were in stock and no delivery date could be given. with the way things are the cooker remains on hold for the forseeable future. let's just say it's the least of any of the current problems. it's almost rude on my part to even think of it as a problem more something to look forward to ...

It's always a surprise and a delight to stumble out of the wooded footpath from Turville and come across this view.
This is not perhaps the best angle to view the church and its huge 12th century tower, but I liked the framing of the wooded hills behind. It is thought the tower with its four foot thick walls was the original nave of the Norman church, that to the right, later medieval.
And I didn't go to the Chequers Pub which is just behind me to the right for a second pint.
I had over an hour to kill until my partner could pick me up so I sat on that bench on the far right and had my rather warm and soggy 'lunch' - three hours late. (overnight oats made that morning: large Scottish oats, skimmed milk with vanilla protein powder, flaked almonds, chia seeds and frozen berries ...very healthy but a bit heavy to lug around for nearly 5 hours!)
Good to know The Chequers is open all day for us walkers who can be gasping, although it brags it is 'gastro' so I'm not sure of the reception to damp walker wearing boots just wanting a pint and a packet of crisps. Most pubs around here shut in the afternoon so always check.

If you are looking for the beach you need to steer around the sea oats... Or friends the turtles use tese area to lay their eggs. The Sea Oats also help us from having serious erosion problems. Every year we plant 1000's of these in Cape Canaveral.
