Fabulous nursery full of cacti and succulents in Simonton, Texas, west of Houston. I've driven past this place for years on my way to visit my cousin but never stopped as I only saw the usual annuls and landscaping shrubs outside. Wow! What a surprise to find 2 huge greenhouses full of succulents and cacti. Nov. 2018
still need to put up the wall shelf above the dresser, secure the dresser to the wall and put up a few pictures.
I wanted this nursery room to feel bright and colorful. The room was inspired by nature and everything in it has been "upcycled" in some way.

One of our resident dock spider moms lookng for a place to secure her egg sac. She's so thin! They don't eat when they're protecting the eggs. She will create a large nursery web for the spiderlings to hatch into. They seem to like the space between the float and the dock boards.
A few miles out of town towards Plain is our local-nursery Guru Mike who has an amazing and healthy variety of plants and unlike most Nursery Dept in Grocery or Mall Stores, his plants are healthy, not wilted and abused.

She (?) sat still whilst I very carefully approached, snapped one shot, decided to 'up' the shutter speed, and as I moved my finger, she shot off! Lol! So this is the only one I got, and the dried grasses are burnt out... but hey ho!

Srategically spun by a female nurseryweb spider (Dolomedes minor) in a nice spiky location, for her spiderlings' protection until they are able to fend for themselves.
green house of ferns.
I had a glimpse of melancholy, though I love plants and green, and I recommend more green places than industrial. It felt like a nursery with babies.
An active hunter, the female Nursery Web spider spins web to protect her young as they are about to hatch to protect them until they are able to venture out alone. She will carry the egg-sac in her fangs before they hatch.
They are a widespread species and are a relatively large spider, (1.5cm long body), closely related to the rarer Raft spider; they can be spotted sunbathing in brambles or on nettles.
I think it was my wife who spotted this spectacular female nursery web spider, Pisaurina mira, hiding in the shade. North end of Door County, Wisconsin, USA, June 25, 2019.
I painted them white and added rub-ons...super easy! (rub-ons are Hambly screenprints and Basic Grey)
We took out the closet to make this nook which fits the full sized bed. I'm figuring I will be sleeping here with the baby.
I designed the word art in the Silhoutte software using a free font. I added flourishes from the online store to show off the reference.
I also designed the circles and cut it out in 3 colors and laid every circle individually on the wall. Took one night.

Back Garden - the only other time I've seen one was last year at Dene Park, when I found one guarding it's young in a web.

Good to get the macro lens into action again.
A variable species seen here in typical resting position. The 8 eyes of this species are all more or less the same size but despite having 8 eyes their eyesight is not that good.

The circles on the wall are paper. The brown inserts in the shelves are cardboard covered in pretty paper and ribbons and glued into place. I got the little hanging plaque at Value Village. The curtains are leftovers of Ikea curtains that I hemmed from the kitchen. Got the shelf above the window at a garage sale. Round "pillow" is the quilt from the crib set tied up with a ribbon. All of this done on a very low budget... obviously.
2D Zoo bunting banner hanging matches perfect with this gorgeous nursery.

Fascinating to be able to watch the progress of this batch of baby Nursery Web Spiders. They emerged from the egg sack several days ago and now wander around in the big "nursery" web during the day - under the watchful eye of Mom. But in the evening, they form one or two big balls, like this. I speculate that this is a way to make them look less edible to nighttime predators.
Nearly 3 acres of display gardens are currently under development at Roraima Nursery. Combining a unique terrain with innovative landscaping concepts using rocks and industrial artifacts, the gardens will showcase how cacti and succulents can be combined with other plants such as palms and pines to create a beautiful and dramatic garden that is both low in maintenance and requires little water..
.
The gardens will be open to the public from Saturday 29th of April 2017..

History.
.
Roraima Nursery was formerly known as Lara Plant Farm. Established in the 1960s, Lara Plant Farm was well known throughout Geelong and many people have fond memories of visiting the Farm with their parents, playing on the trampolines in the then carpark playground, and visiting the birds in the large aviaries built throughout the retail area..

A fauna park was established in the early 1990s. However, the recession that soon followed took a heavy toll and by the time new owners Lyle and Cheryl Filippe took over in 2001 the fauna park had closed and the Nursery was in need of a major overhaul. Removing the old aviaries and creating a more open shop area surrounded by garden beds, the new Nursery is now vibrant and beautiful, once again delighting all who visit..

Mount Roraima.
.
Situated on the borders of Venezuela, Guyana and Brazil, Mount Roraima is a famous example of tepui, or table-top mountain. Separated from the surrounding plateau by nearly vertical cliffs, the flat top of Mount Roraima remained a mystery to explorers from the time of the discovery of the mountain by Sir Walter Raleigh in the 16th Century until the cliffs were finally scaled in the 1880s. The mountain inspired the famous novel "The Lost World" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, in which explorers reached the flat top to discover a haven of dinosaurs still living..
.
When Nursery owner Lyle Filippe climbed Mount Roraima in 1998, there were no dinosaurs to be seen! but he was delighted to see many plants that are unique to the mountain top, and beautiful outcroppings of rock and crystal. Returning to Australia Lyle was inspired to name his nursery after the beautiful mountain..
Roraima Nursery has the widest variety of cacti and succulents in the Geelong region. Some of the more popular genera of cacti we stock are: Mammillaria, Notocactus, Oreocereus, Gymnocalycium, and Lobivia. Among our succulent range we have Aloe, Agave, Crassula, Gasteria, Haworthia, Echeveria, Sedum, Faucaria, Yucca, Cotyledon, and Aeonium. .
.
Some of the more unusual plants among our range include Dioscorea elephantipes (Elephants foot), Dracaena draco (Dragon Tree), and Furcraeas. We also stock Brachychiton rupestris (Queensland Bottle Tree).
.
We are currently building an extensive collection of cacti and succulents (not open for public viewing) from which an even larger variety of plants will soon be available for purchase. These will be of particular interest to collectors and will be available through mail order or online, or from the Nursery directly.
