Reflecting on numbers is a still life photograph of wooden box with number cubes shot on a reflective metal sheet.
Konjic is a small town in northern Herzegovina. Latest census numbers put its population around 25,000. It's located about 40 miles (60 km) southwest of Sarajevo on the way to the Adriatic Sea.
Historically...it seems areas near town here were settled about 4,000 years ago. The Illyrian tribes settled in the area about 2,000 years ago. The actual name of Konjic first appeared in the written record in 1382, and those records belonged to the Republic of Ragusa (seated in modern-day Dubrovnik, Croatia). Konjic, though, did not. It was part of the Bosnian kingdom (in existence from 1377-1453...or 1463), then belonged to the Ottoman Empire for about four centuries before passing to the Austro-Hungarian empire. Finally, around the time of World War I, Yugoslavia was formed (with 5 other nearby republics). When Yugoslavia separated into those separate republics after 1989, the following decade brought lots of nasty Balkan wars.
Konjic wasn't spared. This was an important city for its location. There's a Martyrs' Cemetery here (pictured) that holds the remains of 102 who died during the Bosnian War. (490 total from this small town died at the hands of the Serbs.)
Aside from the history, the most visible symbol of the town is the Stara Cuprija (Old Bridge). It was built in 1682-83 by the Ottomans to cross the Neretva River. The Nazis destroyed it in 1945 in their retreat. It was rebuilt to its original state between 2003-09 and is now a national monument.
There's also a large traditional cemetery located near the Old Bridge. It's up on a hill behind Sveti Marko (Chapel).
I was working in Word and when this popped up, I had the urge to take a picture of it. That's what started this whole "in numerical order" thing.
