Just some random thought on how notebooks should be build. At least seen from the manufacturers' perspective.

it wasn't very fun to create, i had some trouble . . . but i do love it and it's really cute and i'm happy with how it turned out!
A notebook for all of those random scribbles that we all need to make. The pages are perfect bound & covered with a TDK D-60 cassette cover. Made from recycled newsprint, envelopes & packing paper. Contains around 150-200 pages..

The notebook consists of blank papers, separator and lined papers. With two different type of papers, it allows the child to write or draw on the notebook. It measures 8cm X 8cm. It's ideal as a giveaway at children's birthday party.

This was the last time I looked at diatoms through a microscope - on 18 January 1983! It has relevance to the Fourier transforms discussed in the previous two posts. Notably the viewing of the back focal plane of the objective relates to the computed power spectrum.
The colour drawing on the second page shows the grating diffraction produced by the diatom pattern of apertures, the light source being the condenser illuminated ring which is part of the phase contrast setup.
The drawing on the 3rd page shows a similar diffraction pattern from an almost closed condenser diaphragm at the centre of the field: this analogue image corresponds approximately to the computed (digital) power spectrum.
This is a good demonstration of Abbe's theory of microscope resolution: the numerical aperture of the objective has to be great enough to capture the diffraction pattern of the image fine structure.
