one will go in the galaxie 500 to record mileage and oil changes and the dates of repairs i can never remember, and one will go by the window by the kitchen table so we can record the weather and the birds we see visiting the feeder and one will go by the landline to record voicemails and whatnot ( yes we have a landline ) and a few will go out to work because it seems to me that if you're the brand manager for a farmer-owned cooperative it just makes sense to record your thoughts in field notes ( appropriately enough one will probably be sitting next to this lunchbox ).

There are a lot of miscellaneous things in my notebook. For example, "Today is for..." stuff. Itinerary details. Notes from a scouting trip. Prayers people try to teach me at religiously-oriented tea houses (this photo shows one of them, in the handwriting of the guy who was trying to teach me).
The other day I learned an idiom when I mentioned in conversation, "We should always be thankful for the women in our group." That idiom went into the notebook.
However, some things do not go into the notebook. I recently learned a bit of slang so crude we were embarrassed just to speak it out loud. That bit of slang did not go into the notebook.
The reason? Sometimes cops ask to see my notebook. They rifle through its pages, even though they can't read most of what's in there. I don't mind them stumbling across a prayer or a family-friendly idiom. But I don't want them stumbling across vulgar words. Those I just have to commit to memory.
A simple signature product that I designed and made for the amateur book bindery that I am involved with. Blue books have lines to write on, red ones have blank pages.

This morning I hit from behind Frankie Lee's monitor. (Frankie Lee is my notebook). The screen went black, and my heart sank! "Nooo! I killed Frankie Lee!"
I turned it off for a while, and now it seems that everything is ok, but I'm copying my files on my family's computer... Just to be safe...
