I finally have received an email that will lead to the NASA contact I've been wanting. Here is part of it.

:: Permission to use your Photoshop Shuttle Reentry Photo

Hello,

First, I would like to comment that your "Normal Shuttle Entry" photo is a beautiful rendering, and I couldn't find anything else even relatively close to its quality! The reason I bring up this photo is my company produces shielding technology for reentry that NASA has shown great interest in, and I am currently writing an article about our material.

I would like to ask for your permission to use this photo in my article, and if the article gets published, include your photo in the magazine article... which would hopefully in turn get NASA's attention like you've mentioned you desire to accomplish and help both of us out....

...Thank you,

-Anthony Palma

Hi, Karolyn,

- that was fun today at Coffeetopia.

- here is the address of the entry image:

www.flickr.com/photos/doneastwest/186004657/in/set-720575...

- i'll just mention that the image is calibrated for a

Macintosh screen, which is brighter than a PC screen.

it would be easy to send them a PC version.

- i would also love to work on the image after

criticism.

- it is presently somewhat simplified- more like a diagram:

- the white on the wing is ok but the white would creep higher on the fuselage than i have shown.

- the blurring of the upper portion of the tail and fuselage is just an effort to show speed.

Feb. 11, 2009- more shuttle reentry image confirmation:

Hi Don,

I was wondering if I could obtain permission to use your wonderful shuttle graphic (with credit) within a Power Point presentation I am creating on Meteorites. The picture will be used to illustrate the effects of air friction on objects entering our atmosphere. The powerpoint presentation will be used periodically (maybe 2-3 times per year) for education outreach for local science museums, astronomy clubs, and other astronomy / science events. Let me know.

Thank you!

Several months ago, KCRW's Good Food did a segment on absinthe which made me start thinking about a spring garden party to sample it. She mentioned a particular brand, which I scrawled in a Grass Stain Green Field Notes Book, and today it paid off. Browsing the miniatures at the liquor store for treasures to sample, I immediately recognized this bottle as the brand I'd noted.

Every day. Every class. Every member that gives feedback (even from just staying in class, or pushing their limits; some come up too - which is magical. Doesn't matter if that happens every class. It still means a lot), but even more awesome the community of fitness lovers we build - this. This is why I love teaching.

Thank you to those who have allowed me to be a part of their fitness journey. It means as much to me as it seems to affect you. It inspires me to be better, give more of myself, to push ourselves to limitless possibilities.

Keep it real. Stay with the fight.

Notes from a 2009 IASummit pre-conference workshop with Indi Young. This page covers some of Young's tips on interview rules, phrasing when summarizing stories, and using corner jewels to annotate mental model diagram boxes.

I shared a cab with Indi from the airport to the Summit, and loved her conversation with the cab driver--mad interviewing skills at work, we had three stories about the city and quite a few BBQ recommendations. When she suggested we 'practice everywhere' during the workshop, I knew just what she meant.

The Sewing Time Machine: A blouse named 'Secretary001'

The Sewing Time MachineWednesday, January 27, 2010A blouse named 'Secretary001'Here is my next project, or the inspiration for my next project. I'm no expert on the matter but this reminds me of a 40's pencil pushing office blouse, which is why I named it Secretary001.It looks to me like all the control has been shifted into side darts which were then gathered into the side seams. The sleeve looks like a very short kimono or dolman. Anyways, I got to work on the PatternMaster and this is my first muslin.

I'm not happy because I look like a bag lady!

So I learned that when zero waist darts are selected, the slack is not picked up anywhere else - not in the side seam and not in other darts. I'll have to manually shift all the control into the side dart. And that will be my second muslin....Posted by Marie-Anne at 6:28 PMLabels: blouse, fitting, PatternMaster Boutique0 comments:Post a CommentNewer Post Older Post HomeSubscribe to: Post Comments (Atom)PagesHomeAbout MeMarie-AnneWhen I'm not cleaning, cooking, or working, I'm going back in time....with my sewing machine!View my complete profileThis WeekChris' jacket is lined and it looks great. People usually sit still when they are listening to interesting speakers.

It's been a while. This is the top of my computer desk. The springtime sun has perked up the bonsai and the cacti; they'll be going outside soon. Also featured is my impractically large and ever-growing shot glass collection.

I found this note in the hallway last year - I still haven't figured out who is writing.

Jackson's Best Chewing Tobacco Note Card

"Say, Stanley, old fellow, give us a chew, just a toothful," says the hungry hungry hippo, his mouth open wide to receive his prize, while a rhino looks on with interest. But he's not getting candy, oh no, he's about to chomp on some chewing tobacco. Oh well, I suppose that's better for his teeth. Our note card takes a 19th century postcard and reproduces it here for your pen pal pleasure.
