I came out of a client's house, after working on their computer for an hour and a half, to find this note on my bike. Which was chained to THEIR "balcony supports."

Made by myself :) I like this picture a lot - it's from "Death Note: Another Note, the Los Angeles BB Murder Cases" novel.

This is the first test image ever taken with my brand new Canon EOS Rebel T3i. The colors were slightly enhanced in Aperture 3 but everything else is directly out of the camera.

I'm happy with this picture because the strange DOF makes it interesting, in my opinion. What do you think?

CDT 5 at Házimozi és Hifi Show Budapest

I've been at iStockphoto for exactly one year. Here's all my work notes for the year.

Had a Nissan Note this time as spare car.

These fine eloquent hands hold a diary, closed for takeoff of our flight, but previously open and into which this gentleman had added notes extensively in wonderful handwritten script, the details, I imagined, of his journey. His note taking included drawings, sketches of birds, and trees, that I could see. It seemed a treasure he held in his hands. He had fallen asleep holding it tightly, as I took this photo, trying not to disturb. It was held, it seemed, as something highly treasured, as the light seems to tell here.

The Author's note tells the latin name of the fish and plant in the book.

This blank journal was made for a silent auction at a benefit event. It's a sturdy little book weighing in at approximately 200 pages (lightweight acid free sketch paper, hand stitched by me!) and measuring 6"x7". The end papers are green mulberry paper with silver silk-screened leaves. The cover is faux leather with a solvent transfer of the - no joke- Toad Lumpsucker (latin name fish on it. This biological drawing was found in a 1921 edition of the Fisheries Journal - I used a solvent transfer method to print it onto blue paper. the fish is "inlaid" into the cover, not just glued on.The end bands at the top and bottom of the text block are hand sewn on, and the journal has a hollow back which enables it to lay flat when opened!

From photographer's notes - "NATIONAL / PALMS STATION

Looks like quite a bit of work to do in the Plaza area. Wiring and

conduit work was going on. The Platforms seem to be much farther along.

Track work and the Overhead is all complete and ready in this

This station seems to be also nearing the finish line. Canopies and railings are in. Messenger Wire is up at this point and to the Sepulveda Station.

At this point work was in progress on the Overhead Catenary system. Also the Crossing Signals and flashing lights were being connected up the Terminal boxes."

I told you people that we had a pet lion when I was younger. You so thought I was kidding right? This is my oldest brother, Michael who passed away a few years ago with our lion, Gunther and me in the very cool Def Leppard t-shirt, L.A. Gear tennis shoes and tight-rolled jeans!!

I am either 12 in this picture or about to turn 12 since it's Christmas time.

[Note: Throughout this text, I’m calling this dish “chili.” Technically, by divine definition, it’s simply not chili unless it has beans. May God forgive me for making so called, “chili” without beans. Every time someone makes so called “chili” without beans, it makes Baby Jesus cry when he looks down on the meat soup.]

Tyson ground chicken was on sale for $1.29 per pound at the store. I bought as many packages as I thought I could fit into my already loaded refrigerator and freezer. This morning my alarm went off at 0600 so I could get up and make “chili” with the ground chicken as chili needs to simmer and sit around for many hours before it’s safe to eat. :-)

I don’t use recipes when I cook unless I’m baking because my grandmother and mother taught me, “you don’t need no damn recipes when you cook.” Also, they taught me when I’d ask how long to cook something, the answer is always, “until it’s done.”

I began by browning three pounds of chicken one pound at a time in the magic wok. Long Yau! Ground chicken is typically packed with lots of water so after the water seeped from the chicken I drained it and put it back into the fire hot wok. I stir fried each batch until the Maillard reaction kicked in and the chicken was browned and caramelized. Whether it’s beef or chicken, or pork, I like my chili meat to be “al dente” with a caramelized crust.

Once the browned chicken was in the pot, I took a handful of jalapeños and stir fried them in the magic wok until the seeds were slightly toasted. This was quite painful. I was so glad I no longer wear contacts. My sinuses were dry before I did this and I’ve been sitting around with a box of Kleenex now for the last few hours. Remember! DON’T RUB YOUR EYES! If you’re a mellophone player, you should probably get a man to fry the jalapeños for you.

I tossed the fried jalapeños into the pot with the meat. Then I chopped up four yellow onions and a couple of large red peppers, or “poivron rouges” as we call them in the French speaking part of Texas. When they were softened and lightly caramelized, it was into the pot with them.

It was at this point I realized I was going to need a bigger pot, so I transferred everything to a 5 gallon stock pot. I sliced a half dozen stalks of celery and stir fried them as well. My Aggie Ring told me that I could have just used celery salt and no one would know. “I’d know.” I told him.

From that point on it was just a matter of toasting whole cumin seeds and grinding them in my mortar. My mama didn’t raise no son who uses pre-ground spices unless there’s a hurricane a blowing. I probably put a half dozen or so other spices in the “big ass” pot along with some whole pealed Italian tomatoes.

I had diced and wok fried a couple of pounds of garlic until the pieces were crispy a few days ago. I threw in about half a cup of those. One cannot have too much garlic in chili.

And the best part last! I added a couple of pounds of sliced okra because I had it in the refrigerator. What kind of savage doesn’t keep okra on hand in their refrigerator? I’m not some yokel from East Texas. I was raised properly. We eat okra in my home.

After bringing the “big ass” pot of chili (forgive me Jesus for calling something without beans chili) to the boil, I put it on a slow simmer where it will remain for about three hours until reduced. I don’t like a runny chili. As always, chili is always better the next day. It looks as if I’ll have about two gallons. I’ll likely be freezing much of it in one quart plastic bags.

Note # [ see also "Leila", below, on the same subject. ]

- i continue to have the prob of "don't want to fill the site w photos of beautiful women", as i said it to Yvette. i'm toning all of them down, but still...

- one thing is how to find out if photos dropped off for people temporarily in the More set are done; if they have copied all of them and don't need them on the site anymore. ( odd to call it a 'problem' but i know what i mean. it's a part of 'being good'. )

LEILA-

This text is under the photo of Leila. part of it relates to the above:

"[ don note-

- there were five photos here before, dropped off for Leila to pick up. she has them now.

- this is the comprehensive photo. i'll ask her to give me the background story of playing the guitar into the computer and put it here and keep only this one. the others are less comprehensive and some of them are too glamorous for the site. (there are alot of womens' photos on the site but i tone them down when necessary.)

- i'd like the "People" set to include Leila and everyone that works at Coffeetopia, as well as some of the customers.

- the idea of doing that is an extension of the project i've worked on for several years: photos of people at work. i ask them, then do the shots and then bring the prints and try to talk them out of throwing them away because they will want them in ten years.

- i've done it at the Palomar, China Szechwan, and Coffeetopia; may do it at Palace Arts.

- there may be a Coffetopia division in the People set. Stacey, Mona, Yvette Ben and Andrea are beyond that but i run into 'beautiful women' problems if i load up the set with workers and customers i know at Coffeetopia. there are only a few men that come into it because most of the workers are women. Ben and Matt and Josh will help to fill it out. Also, Dana- a customer- is in here already and he is in a group photo that is coming. Later, Dave, the owner; maybe Robert but i think he will do his curmudgeon act about it. Phil. old shot of Gabe, who has gone back to L.A. Liz, Autumn. didn't get all the new people yet.

- where are the notes about photographing shy people with a camcorder on a tripod, shooting motion?

it's the photo of Yvette (but she is not camera-shy.):

- May 28, 06- after the "Events and Projects" set is created, you can have a single, introducing, photo in here and other People type sets (Lately, Burning Man, Coffee Life) and just say something like, "The photo group for this is here:

[ the purpose of the E&P set is to hold people stuff that takes several pages to cover. it makes it easier to find people in the other sets by making them smaller. ]
