This notion of mu, “non-existence” or emptiness”, a quality that is central to Zen, therefore played an important role in the evolution of wabi-sabi.
Nb Zen does not regard “noyhingness” as a state of the absence of objects but rather affirms the existence of the unseen behind the empty space.
“Everything exists in emptiness” The following poem by Fujiwara no Sadai has often been cited as exemplifying the essence of the relationship between “nothingness” and wabi-sabi…..

It is no longer a choice, my friends, between violence and nonviolence. It is either nonviolence or nonexistence.
"Spectral Resonance" captures the stark contrast between the finality of death and the exuberance of life. This ai-generated artwork features a haunting skull enveloped by an explosion of vibrant splashes, symbolizing the burst of energy that is life against the void of nonexistence. The dynamic interplay of colors set against the dark background evokes a sense of the cosmic dance between creation and destruction.

Because the idol is your face,
I have become an idolater.
Because the wine is from your cup,
I have become a drunkard.
In the existence of your love,
I have become nonexistent.
This nonexistence linked to you
is better than all existence.

UTSC valley - mini photowalk
-decided to post some of my other fave shots from this photowalk; After I lost almost all of my photos from this year (since my computer is ^%&!)...I realize flickr saved some of my photos from nonexistence!
'Being'
1. Existence, as opposed to nonexistence; state or sphere of existence. "In Him we live, and move, and have our being." Acts xvii. 28.
As this definition expresses the word 'being' as 'existing' i thought there was no better way of showing ones existence than through memories and photographs.
Photographs work as a type of evidence to ones existence, providing information of what they did, who they knew and what they looked like.
How - I used a Nikkod D 40 with flash. Spread all the photos on the ground, used a mini tripod and self timer to capture the image. Editing was done to enhance the overall effects of colour and focus.

“ É assim: quer, quer, não quer, fica sem, é agora, já, de imediato, o s-a-c-r-i-f-i-c-i-o”. Não há quem mereça isso; não deveria haver quem se julgasse na condição de ofertar apenas isso. A vida é via de mão dupla e não aceita tais prendas. Banana tem potássio e faz bem para Chiquita Bacana lá da Martinica; a casca faz escorregar, estatelar no chão, sem chão. Cada um, cada um, dá/faz o que sabe.
"You come to us
from another world
From beyond the stars
and void of space.
Transcendent, Pure,
Of unimaginable beauty,
Bringing with you
the essence of love.
You transform all
who are touched by you.
Mundane concerns,
troubles, and sorrows
dissolve in your presence,
Bringing joy
to ruler and ruled
To peasant and King.
You bewilder us
with your grace.
All evils
transform into
goodness.
You are the master alchemist.
You light the fire of love
in earth and sky
in heart and soul
of every being.
Through your loving
existence and nonexistence erge.
All opposites unite.
All that is profane
becomes sacred again. "

Did you know that there are some islands found on maps that are actually non-existent? Those who claimed as discoverers of these islands testified that they have seen them and even landed them. Teams that were assigned to check these assumed lands ended up seeing the wide shores and nothing more, although other declared that they discovered the said islands.
Below are the ten islands on maps that don’t really exist.
10. Sandy Island
In 2012, this island was declared as nonexistent. But before that, Sandy Island appeared on Google Earth and was located between New Caledonia (Pacific) and Australia. The British ship Velocity originally recorded the island in 1876. Its first appearance on British map was in 1908.
Many of the expeditions were not able to locate the island and was later removed in some maps during the 1970s but remained on others. Sandy Island was not seen on French maps. Maybe the French have the idea that it does not actually exist or they were ignorant about its existence.
Scientists at the University of Sydney proved the nonexistence of this island when they tried to see the island for confirmation of its existence. The ship Velocity’s crew mistakenly identify the pumice rafts as an island. A volcanic activity formed the pumice rafts (floating rocks) and known to be seen or float in the supposed location where the island was previously claimed to be seen (1,400 meters or 4,600 ft deep).

While immersed in an ocean of sorrows in St. Petersburg today I encountered the geese family, had a close encounter with a dolphin, and happened upon a cute little duckling with its mother.
While immersed in an ocean of sorrows today I happened to pass businesses in distress, empty homes, eroding sea walls, beaches disappearing under the rising seas, and the human species suffering its own terminal illness.
While immersed in an ocean of sorrows today I went up to Heaven and consoled God in His sorrows, travelled down to Hell to console Satan in his misery, and listening to the voice of a million gods singing their praise to Mother Nature, the owner of the Earth and presiding spirit governing humankind's fate.
While immersed in an ocean of sorrows today my soul expanded to fill the Universe and then it ceases to exist and in nonexistence it found immense relief and happiness.
When immersed in an ocean of sorrows today I found myself and in finding myself I found God. God above, God below, God existent, God nonexistent, God everywhere, and God nowhere.
God is the only true atheist in the Universe but how can God disbelieve in His own self?
This is the dam that stops 95% of the San Joaquin River from being free, free, free. If I were the San Joaquin River, I'd be royally pissed off. But it appears to be fairly placid. From here on out it gets subjected to gravel mining, diversions, total nonexistence--and ultimately, connection with the Sacramento River, whence it flows into the Delta and then on into San Francisco Bay. Together the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers fulfill betwen 30 and 40 percent of the water needs of the state of California. (Tomorrow, photos of the San Joaquin in its nonexistent incarnation. I sometimes wonder that the state of California can survive at all....)
I sent my "hopes & prayers" to Las Vegas but God informed me that "hopes & prayers" cannot possibly accomplish what the extinction of the human species will accomplish.
I say to God, "If I possessed divine power I'd end the entire human experiment today." God answered, "You are more benevolent and kinder than the laws of physics. Unfortunately the laws of physics own the Universe and their authority exceeds that of God above."
I ask God, "How then is God so weak?" God answers, "Nonexistence is a type of weakness which not even God can overcome."
People go through your life and you simply don't 'absorb' them.
Is it a kind of non intentional murder?
Or is it only a matter of nonexistence?
The pelicans say, "The moment that the human species invented the first weapon the human species attained status as evolution's greatest failure and irrefutable proof of God's nonexistence."
A huge number of films have been made glorifying martial spirit and skill with weapons. (not all as bad as the Last Samurai.)
The tern flies away from a successful dive. The tern says, "Birds do not have goals or aspirations because they are born perfect and live perfectly and need not seek any sort of afterlife as a compensation for living a perfect life in a perfect manner."
I tell the tern, "Too bad the humans do not realize that not even Heaven would save humankind from the scourge and curse of human nature. This is one example of how a species might travel and yet carry all of its problems wherever it goes. Nor, for that matter, is Heaven an adequate compensation for all of the troubles and sorrows that the human species has inflicted upon itself from the beginning until the end of the species."
The tern responded, "If your God cannot make your species perfect on the Earth why would you imagine that God would perfect your species in Heaven? The humans are driven to such beliefs by desperation and cling to these beliefs because the reality of the failure of the human species is too great to bear."
I tell the tern, "Any species in need of salvation is not at all worthy of salvation. Any species in need of salvation is instead worthy of extinction, nonexistence and the Universe won't preserve any memories of the existence of such a failed species."
The tern concludes by saying, "If it is any consolation to the human species: You lacked free will and could not avoid this fate. God failed to save you because humankind's God is nothing more than a projection of the human species. The projection ideally would have represented a perfect being, but no creature as imperfect as humankind could have a perfect God."
People chase things that were considered valuable to their lives to match others' philosophy of life but not theirs. In the end, we all need to deal the fragile parts deep inside our spirits. In the sociality of big-feet bird, a male bird with large feet is considered handsome. Therefore, many male bird tries hard to enlarge their feet to reach the standard of perfection. Sadly, there is no perfection of any physical things. The idea of chasing perfection is doom to fail from the beginning.
Neurotech it's a futuristic metal/electronica hybrid run by Wulf, who is also the songwriter and producer behind the bands releases.
The idea for the band goes a long way back, but it became serious when Transhuman EP was completed in 2007 and released in January 2008. It contained 5 powerful songs filled with sonic soundscapes, simple yet aggressive guitar riffs combined with a lot of synthesizers.
Few shows were made to support the release, but the main goal was to create and release a full length album.
In 2008 a websingle - The Angst Zeit was released to show people a bit upgraded Neurotech sound and direction.
Then - in years of composing, experimenting, failing, learning, and some more failing, the debut album was released in March 2011.
Antagonist is a developed vision of Neurotech. Big choruses, choirs, melodies and carefully chosen harmonic content combined with a dense production makes Neurotech move another step in the right direction. Album lyrics are always written from a multiangle point of view - dealing with topics such as - inner opponents, anxiety and agoraphobia, to nonexistence of a modern indentity.
With completion of Antagonist, Neurotech looks in to the future again.
One of the points of basic vipashyana practice is developing what is known as the knowledge of egolessness. That is to say that the awareness that develops through the vipashyana experience brings nonexistence of yourself. And because you develop an understanding of the nonexistence of yourself, therefore you are freer to relate with the phenomenal world---the climate, atmosphere, or environment.
Unless thare is no basic center, one cannot develop the vipashyana experience. On the practical level, this means that vipashyana is experiencing a sense of the environment, a sense of space, as the meditator practices. This is called awareness as opposed to mindfulness. Mindfulness is very detailed and very direct, but awareness is something panoramic, open. Even in following the breathing techniques of mindfulness of breathing, you are aware not only of the breathing but also of the environment you have created around the breath.
As far as dealing with heavy-handed thoughts, emotions, is concerned, there is no way of destroying or getting over them unless you see the reference point that is with them. To begin with, seeing this takes the form of awareness of the atmosphere or environment. If you are already aware of the atmosphere beforehand, then there is a possibility that you might have a less intense relationship with your heavy-handed thoughts. That is one of the basic points.
Once you are aware of the atmosphere, you begin to realize that thoughts are no big deal. Thoughts can just be allowed to diffuse into the atmosphere. This kind of atmosphere that we are talking about is, in any case, an ongoing experience that happens to us in our lives. But sometimes we find we are so wrapped up in our little game, our little manipulation, that we miss the totality. That is why it is necessary for students to begin with shamatha (mindfulness)---so that they can see the details of such an eruption, such a manipulation, the details of the game that goes on. Then beyond that, having established some kind of relationship with that already, they begin to see the basic totality.
Thus vipashyana is understanding the whole thing. You might ask, "What is this whole thing?" Well, it's not particulary anything, really. This "whole thing" is the accommodator of all the activities that are taking place. It is the basic accommodation, which usually comes in the form of boredom, as far as the practitioner is concerned. The practitioner is looking for something to fill the gap, particularly in the sitting practice of vipashyana meditation, where the quality of nonhappening becomes very boring. Then you might get agitated by the boredom, which is the way of filling it up with some activities.

The five day school week was introduced in 2002. Working and studying hard is still seen as a virtue – but change is on the way. The spectre of karoshi hangs threateningly over education.
And that is precisely the difference between the western and eastern attitude to beauty. The japanese focus not on what is logically considered beatiful but on what people feel is beautiful – a cocept known as “mono no aware”.
Eg we appreciate flowers in full bloom whereas the Japanese are more moved when the flower wilts and withers.
A moon partially covered with clouds is is regarded as more appealing than one which is full. And so on.
In Japan the emphasis on the the group is extremely strong. It creates a sense of belonging and defines an individual’s status and identity. The group identity in turn is reinforced by concepts of harmony within the group, competition between groups within accepted limits, conformity with accepted patterns of behaviour, and a clearly defined hierarchy within the group. These attitudes are responsible for a particularly strong national identity.
Weddings in western style chapels are increasingly common. This one is in the foyer of a hotel in Osaka.

This is wabi-sabi at its most eloquent.
This self portrait is a statement on my confused state of my teenage mind. Who is me? Am I good am I bad? How come I feel like am two peoples sometimes doing very many contradictory things and have very contradictory emotions. Ah, teenage hood! The negative effect was accomplished through a fancy sounding process called "solarization" which simply is turning on the room light in the dark room before the photo is permanently fixed. The double image actually is the same photo negative exposed at a different height on the paper. I covered the image on the right as I exposed the negative on to the paper on the left. Then I covered up the image on the left as I solarized the image on the right.
I used this photo to accompany my poem "My battles with non-existence or the Power of Pepper" that appears in my book of poems "Arrivederci! Plastic-Covered Couch
The skylines of Japanese cities may not be that different from other world cities but the functional zoning is.
The three ducks wonder, "Humans seem desperate to leave the Earth. Too bad space ships transporting humans to anywhere else aren't available. The rest of Nature would gladly foot the bill for the removal of the human species from the solar system to anywhere else in the Universe, particularly a dead planet such as the moon or Mars."
I tell the ducks, "Humankind is leaving the Earth but the human species has nowhere to go. Humankind has already paid the entire bill for rendering the Earth inhospitable to human life but even this knowledge hasn't stopped the human species from keeping its foot on the accelerator to nonexistence."
Japan’s culture will always have a mixture of old and new, traditional and modern with new hybrids arising and fading all the time. Whatever new traits become popular, they will always have a distinctive Japanese feel.

God visited this sanctuary today and praised its exceptional beauty. God visited the Earth today and marveled at the sheer futility of all of humankind's work, aspirations, dreams, goals and habits.
God said, "Humankind might as well stop working because soon enough there won't be a human on the Earth and the Universe won't remember that humankind ever existed or created anything. The ultimate result of humankind's existence is nonexistence."
I said to God, "Human life would have no meaning at all if humans were healthy, psychologically stable, peaceful internally and externally, and dedicated to appreciating beauty rather than self-destruction and mutual exploitation."
God replied, "I made humans in my own image. This is no compliment to God, by the way."
The Native North American creation myths in which the world was never perfect, never fallen, and never finished being created shone a clear light on the problems with Genesis and the Judeo-Christian preoccupations with perfection and purity and the fall from grace.

The thirty spokes unite in the one nave; but it is on the empty space of the axle,
that the use of the wheel depends. Clay is fashioned into vessels, but it is on their empty hollowness, that their use depends. The door and windows are cut out from the walls to form an apartment, but it is on the empty space within the house, that its use depends.
Therefore, what the use value we get from existence is created by nonexistence and existence together.
