Howdy friends, neighbors and Flickrites.
I've just returned from an epic journey. I descended into the bowels of the earth, crossed chasms on swinging bridges, scaled mountains and visted numerous really nasty public restrooms.
I've traveled from the cotton fields and swamps of Louisiana to the manicured gardens of wealthy industrailists in Delaware. All in pursuit of rare and wonderful things to photograph.
I bring you dinosaurs indiscriminately devouring Yankees and Confederates, glowing gnomes and flourescent fairytales, stalactites and stalagmites, bacon and eggs from the depths of the earth, a man fighting a bear, George Washington's dinnerware, Elvis, mummies, plantations in miniature, jewels, gems and artefacts from around the world. I promise you Foamhenge and exotic animals, suicidal indian girls, ghosts, demons and haunted houses, and the wonders of God's creation. I'll present incredible works of art sculpted in wax, stone, marble, plastic and fiberglass, some by great artsists, some by madmen and some by time itself.
I hope you enjoy. My thanks to all who've written and commented while I was away. I'm trying to catch up. Apologies to anyone I miss.

Been out of work sick since Saturday. Went to the Doctor and while I was waiting on the pharmacy who (even as bad as I feel) I ran up to Noccalula.. The falls may be more the cure than the medicine the doctor wrote for me!!
The number of times I've visited Noccalula Falls......two.
The number of visits when I busted my ass on the slick rocks at Noccalula Falls......two.
The look on my wife's face when she realized that I'd soaked my only clean clothes with water and rock snot at Noccalula Falls (thereby costing her dinner at a nice restaurant that evening)...........well, priceless.
Noccalula Falls is reported to be 90 feet high. It is located in a Gadsden, Alabama city park. I suspected because of the current southern U.S. cold snap there would be ice and there was. For more information: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noccalula_Falls_Park

The waterfall is less impressive in the summer when it hasn't rained on Lookout Mountian for a month, but it is still impressive

the red fox whispered to me. I'm not meant to be held captive in a wire cage with only a plastic box in which to sleep. I'm scared and I'm lonely with no family and no friends.. I was not created to live with a cage as my den. I long to be free to wander and roam, to be at peace with the wild as my home. Set me free, the red fox begged of me. For this is not what God had planned... my captivity is the torture from man.
Come on get me some food out of there!!!
I did get a handful and he ate it right out of my hand. Never left the rail!!
a decent amount of water falling... especially for this time of year. It was still hotter than blazes this morning tho. :-(
Today is the 1st time I have been in the area of Noccalula that you have to pay to enter, with water coming over the falls along with the trail into the gorge being open so I went down there. It sure looks different from down there.
In addition to the falls themselves, this park's features include a pioneer village, train rides, and an animal habitat.
I went back today to try to get some better pictures. Well i did not do so great with the falls because of to much sunlight today, but it gave me an awsome rainbow from the spray.

I went to Nocalula Falls Park today and was let down since the gorge was closed. Well I wandered over to the petting zoo. It was crowded with kids on field trips with their classes and all the attention seemed to get this peacock upset. It was fun to watch him though because he would spread his tail feathers and shake them at the goats, llamas and sheep that was in the pen. He put on a nice show!!

Noccalula Falls in Gadsden AL. Although I probably could have gotten closer, this was a close as I dared hike to the base of the falls. As it was, I was getting drenched by the mist and I could not keep my lens clear for more than one short exposure shot at a time.
Once called Black Creek Falls, the legend of Noccalula imagines a folk tale steeped in Native American imagery and myth. A statue perched on the precipice reminds us of the legendary leap of Princess Noccalula. www.noccalulafallspark.com/about/

According to legend, Alabama's Noccalula Falls is named for Cherokee Princess Noccalula, who threw herself from a rock ledge into the falls and died, rather than marry a wealthy neighboring chief, as arranged by her father. Her heart had already been given to a young brave in her own tribe, but he had been banished. This statue above the falls memorializes the story.
