A 90' drop in the Black Creek Gorge called Noccalula Falls is a popular destination and campground in Gadsden, Alabama. A ballroom was once operated in the cave behind the Falls, but efforts at expansion led to a partial collapse.
Named for a Cherokee Princess, legend (inscribed on a plaque behind the statue) purports that Noccalula was supposed to marry a warrior of the Creek tribe, as arranged by her father, a Cherokee tribal chief, to promote peace between the tribes. However, on her wedding day, she jumped from the rocks along the Gorge, rather than marry, for she had fallen in love with a Cherokee warrior of her own tribe.
Gadsden, Alabama, USA. Legend has it that the beautiful Native American Princess Noccalula leapt from the ledge here to her death in the canyon below when denied marriage to her true love.
We have had more than 5 inches of rain in 2 days. The colors of Noccalula Falls at its prime remind me of coffee and cream!
Noccalula Falls is a 90 foot tall waterfall in Gadsden, Alabama USA. The falls drop itself has been run successfully in whitewater kayaks on multiple occasions, beginning in late November 2011 when three expert kayakers ran the drop. The water level was unusually high, permitting a deep enough pool to form at the base of the falls. Local law enforcement has since issued citations to paddlers for running the falls, as the state does not consider this stretch a state-owned water bottom.

I escaped work early today to get my drivers license renewed and when I got out I went up to the falls. Lee hasnt let me go all week and I knew after the storm that came through that it would be up. I missed it while it was way up but this was a nice consolation prize. Not bad at all.

Went to Noccalula Falls today and set my camera up NAPG style. I could have never pulled this off without NAPG friends help through Flickrmail.
This is Black Creek in the gorge below Noccalula Falls in Gadsden Alabama. No shortage of photography opportunities here.
I went to Noccalula Falls and not take a pic of the falls, NOT! This is 1,000,001 photo of this same falls, but whose counting.
Dropped by Noccalula Falls today while it was so foggy. Here is the 1 gazillionth photo of Noccalula Falls. Fog adds a different dimension to some photos that I love but I don't think I am liking the fog with this waterfall, it just doesn't work for me. I had rather have it clear and crisp. In my head it was going to be awesome but not as pretty in camera as with my eyes.
From a couple of weeks ago when I was out of work. The one good thing about waterfalling in the bright sun is that Noccalula often has a rainbow.
this little cutie wanted me to have a flower today. He was at the Falls with his sister and his Mom. Wasn't this the sweetest thing?? (All in all I like this shot.. I am practicing using Manual exposure... so how about some hints about what you would have done different to make this shot better? )
Noccalula Falls is reported to be 90 feet high. It is located in a Gadsden, Alabama city park. I suspected because of the current southern U.S. cold snap there would be ice and there was. For more information: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noccalula_Falls_Park
