Bolonia, es una ciudad de Italia, capital de Emilia-Romaña (en el norte del país), situada entre el río Reno y el río Sávena, cerca de los Apeninos. Es una de las ciudades históricas mejor conservadas y tiene el segundo casco antiguo medieval más grande de Europa, después del de Venecia. Es llamada la Ciudad Roja por el color de sus tejados y fachadas, y por ser uno de los ejes centrales del Partido Comunista Italiano y de la resistencia de los partisanos contra los fascistas en la Segunda Guerra Mundial. También es llamada Bolonia la Docta por su universidad, fundada en 1088 (la más antigua de todo Occidente), yBolonia la Gorda por su excelente cocina.
