Optimus Prime, Spike Witwicky, Raphael, Snake Eyes, Matt Trakker, He-Man, and Egon Spengler commemorate Lion-O's welcoming party with a group photo.

Poor Optimus.

Michelangelo - He is labeled as "The Wild One" and "The Party Dude" as he is the most "fun" out of all the turtles. He is also very impulsive, extremely social, and wants the outside world (Humans) to accept him and his brothers. He is the first of the turtles to taste pizza and is very proud of his talent for naming things. probably more fun-loving than his brothers, he became a popular culture incarnation of the TMNT, coining most of their catch phrases; hence, he is possibly the most famous Turtle. Because of his more carefree nature, most seem to view Michelangelo as the youngest of the Ninja Turtles, although they are all actually roughly the same age.

His bandanna is typically portrayed as orange, his favorite color (although all four Turtles originally wore red bandannas) Mikey is considerably the most athletic of his brothers and is considered the fastest with the most talent. His weapons are two nunchaku; however, he has also been portrayed using other weapons, such as grappling hooks and tonfas. One of them can convert into a kusarigama which he can use not only for offense in battle, but for defense. These weapons match his flexible like abilities when it comes to battle.

Nunchaku are illegal in many places, so some of the TV show creators had to avoided using them.

While he's not as focused as Leo, strong like Raph, or smart as Donnie, Mikey's talent and unpredictability make up for it. Splinter considers Mikey the one with the most potential to be even more skilled as a ninja then his three brothers combined. Michelangelo is stealthy, can hide in the shadows, sneak around without being detected.

In the original comic books, Michelangelo was initially depicted as fun-loving, carefree, and, while not as aggressive as Raphael, was always ready to fight. Michelangelo's one-shot in 1985 ruled out most of the traits that have become synonymous with the character, such as his playfulness, empathy, and easygoing nature. In the one-shot story, Michelangelo adopts a stray cat (which he names Klunk) and also stops thieves from stealing toys meant for orphaned children.

Later, after their defeat of the Foot Clan the Turtles, Splinter, April O'Neil, and Casey Jones retreat to a farm house in Northampton, Massachusetts. While there, April is worried that Michelangelo is not himself. He spends his days in the barn taking out his aggression on a punching bag. A scene shows him lashing out at his surroundings and repeatedly punching the wall of the barn until it breaks, then collapsing. The end of the story implies that Michelangelo's sorrow and frustration have been resolved, as subsequent issues restore Michelangelo's more relaxed, optimistic personality.

It is during the group's time at the farm we learn that Michelangelo also has an interest in comic books, specifically ones involving superheroes.

Michelangelo was not given an especially large role in the 1984 comic series Volumes 1 and 2. His relatively small role was probably due to the need to establish Leonardo's role as "leader" along with the fact that Donatello was Peter Laird's favorite Turtle, and Raphael was Kevin Eastman's favorite.

Michelangelo's personality became strongly established in the 1987 animated series. He was often seen as a "Party Dude", which accounts for only part of his personality otherwise. As the "party dude", he usually didn't have much input in the team's plans, although he was still just as active as his brothers. He typically spent much of his time joking and socializing with other characters. He has a fondness for pizza, even beyond that of the other Turtles; in the Season 3 episode "Cowabunga, Shredhead", his pizza cravings annoyed the others so much that Splinter hypnotized him into refusing and denouncing pizza whenever the very word was mentioned, although the hypnosis was lifted at the end of the episode.

Michelangelo received his distinctive voice, which has been imitated in other portrayals of him, in the 1990 series. Employing a "surfer slang" vocabulary, he customarily spoke with a unique Californian surfer accent. It is likely that the voicing simply emphasized his laid-back and somewhat innocent attitude. Michelangelo's voice actor was Townsend Coleman in the 1987 series' original English language version and Johnny Castro in the 25th anniversary movie Turtles Forever.

He is named after Michelangelo Buonarroti, the Renaissance artist.

Michelangelo's trademark phrase in this series is the famous "Cowabunga" expression that became a pop culture phenomenon.

Kevin Eastman's original "ninja turtle" concept drawing (1983) portrayed an unnamed turtle with nunchaku strapped to its arms, some consider Michelangelo to be the first Ninja Turtle created.

Cover to Super Turtles #1, published in Japan by Dengeki Comics in 1995. This issue gives the backstory to how the TMNT acquired the Mutastones which were seen in that kooky TMNT anime episode released in Japan. It features story and artwork by Hidemaki Idemitsu. The credits page dates this publication as August 15, 1995.

This is a composite scan of the Japan exclusive mini-comic & character card included with the original Takara Tomy/Playmates Toys release of Foot Soldier action figure for the 4Kids Ninja Turtles toyline! Unlike the Turtle and Shredder releases which all used the Mutations variant for their initial Japanese releases, Foot Soldier uses the same mold as the USA standard release. Shredder steals the spotlight from his Foot ninjas in this mini-comic and the It appears the "Shell Cycle" also makes a cameo.

Comic artwork credited (I think) to Naoto Tsushima.

Metalhead - Donatello's half-pint associate and technological creation. He is a feisty little Turtle-bot. He received a few upgrades since we last saw him, compelling the Turtles to test out his new moves. They all are impressed with him except for Leonardo, who is apparently still hesitant about Metalhead's dependability, was later convinced that he could indeed be trusted.

In the 1987 cartoon series, Metalhead first appeared in the episode "The Making of Metalhead" where it he imbued with thoughts and memories of the Turtles. This gave Metalhead an identity disorder until Donatello reprograms him to work for the Ninja Turtles. Metalhead replicated the voices of the Ninja Turtles, Shredder, and April O'Neil, meaning that Metalhead was voiced by Cam Clarke, Barry Gordon, Rob Paulsen, Townsend Coleman, Dorian Harewood (who was filling in for James Avery at the time), and Renae Jacobs. In this appearance, He was only seen again when Donatello tries to get him to vacuum their TV room in the episode "Big Bug Blunder".

In the 2003 series, Metal Head was part of the final attack on the Tengu Shredder. Metal Head appears in the "Fast Forward" season episode The Journal. Metal Head also appears in TMNT: Back to the Sewer. He shows up in the episodes "Super Power Struggle" and "Wedding Bells and Bytes".

In the 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, Metalhead was created by Donatello from a salvaged Kraang droid as a way to upgrade "his" weapons. Donatello could control Metalhead via a NES-like controller while observing through a TV monitor since there are cameras in Metalhead's eyes. Donatello can also speak through Metalhead voice box.

While Metalhead proved to be nearly unstoppable in combat situations, he was far too clunky and heavy to properly sneak around. Later in the episode, when his brothers became overwhelmed, Donatello sent Metalhead in to take care of the krangg. He easily defeated the Kraang attacking them, knocking off the control antenna in the process. One Kraang realized that Metalhead was made from their technology and detached from its robot body where it opted to control Metalhead. The Kraang-controlled Metalhead and attacked the Ninja Turtles, nearly killing them until Donatello showed up in person. Donatello managed to defeat Metalhead by crashing a support pillar on it.

In a later episode, Metalhead was rebuilt by Donatello where it aided the Ninja Turtles in the battle against the Kraang. Apparently now programmed with some degree of independence and operating without any sign of a direct controller, Metalhead drove the Shellraiser into the TCRI building lobby and subsequently attacked the Kraang guards while the Ninja Turtles used their new gliders to infiltrate the building from the roof.

Metalhead is reconfigured by Donatello in "Metalhead Rewired", in which he exhibits a personality similar to R2-D2 . After a battle with the Kraang goes awry, Leonardo, Michelangelo and Raphael vote to terminate Metalhead, who quickly escapes before Donatello can do so. Metalhead is able to find a portal to a Kraang prison where many mutants from the series have been incarcerated. later Metalhead saves the turtles by staying behind to close the portal and later self destructs.

Weapons-

He has extending and rocket propelled punches and kick attacks, as well as a machine guns in his chest and rocket launchers. he also is programed and skilled with strong ninjutsu capabilities.

Video Games-

Metalhead appears in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time as the boss of the second level. Turtles in Time Re-Shelled; The instruction manual of the Super NES version of Turtles in Time erroneously refers to Metalhead as Mechaturtle.

Some Classic Retro Ninjas

#Vintage

--Updated with new scan August 8, 2020--

I figured I'd revive this thread to share a very unique look at the good ol' Sewer Lair of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles courtesy of one of the vintage Japanese TMNT publications I recently acquired. I believe it's from the "TV Magazine" Special # 45.

It provides some good points of reference for the training room, Splinter's room, and the garage, as well as the storm drain exit!

There are some obvious errors, though, most notably the entrances to the turtles' individual rooms. Also, I think Donatello's Lab is behind his room, rather than alongside of Michielangelo's pad, as suggested by this illustration.

Also, here's an English fan-translation!

forums.thetechnodrome.com/showpost.php?p=1055968&post...

These are the Playmates Classics TMNT figures the way I think they should've been made in the first place! I gave their weapons cartoon accurate colors, the straps on Leonardo and Donatello were removed, their belt buckles are now cartoon accurate and I added just a little bit of lining, in the same style the NECA turtles were painted, but much more subtle, since the cartoon style of the cartoon was very simple looking, so that's the way I went here. I also fineshed the whole look with a matt lacquer, that way I got rid of the plastic shine they had, and now they look totally cartoony and fit more with something Mezco could've done (like their South Park and Scott Pilgrim lines)

NECA TMNT Cartoon April O'Neil, Vernon & others

Raphael - in the original black-and-white Mirage Comics, was the most violent turtle and had a tendency for going berserk either in battle or when his temper flared up. Raphael mellowed somewhat as the series went on when he allowed Leonardo to go in alone to defeat The Shredder after nearly being killed by the Foot Elite. Since then, he has been less likely to challenge Leonardo's leadership, and on the whole is more friendly towards his family and allies.

In the Mirage/Image Comics, all four turtles wear red bandanas over their eyes, but unlike his brothers in other versions, he is the only one who keeps the red bandana. Just like his brothers, Raph is stealthy, can hide in the shadows, sneak around without being detected, and use hand to hand combat like a real ninja. In his self-titled one-shot miniseries, Raphael meets human vigilante Casey Jones, his foil, who is more violent and unstable than he was. Despite their brutal first meeting, the two have since formed a close bond.

The show's theme song states that Raphael is "cool, but rude" (he takes a slice of pizza with his sai and shoves the rest of it onto the screen), as opposed to being angry and sullen as in other versions. Raphael is the Turtle best known for his sarcastic mouth a somewhat cynical sense of humor and hair-trigger temper. He supplies comic relief alongside Michelangelo, whose humor is usually attributed to his ignorance and spaciness.

Raph loves fighting and does not like it when Donnie or Leo come up with very complicated plans. Raph likes to make fun of his brothers and is good at coming up with very smart-mouthed remarks. Also, Raph often lets his impulsiveness get in the way of rational thinking. Raph is the strongest, toughest, and fastest of his brothers, and is able to take on opponents quicker. His temper, if used correctly, can boost up his strength and make him a much better fighter. Raph also has pretty good defense since he uses his sais to trap peoples hand and judo flip them. He doesn't think much when fighting which could work to his advantage. Raphael's temper, in a way, gives him a boost in his strength which helps him out in battle. The problem though, he often gets into situations without thinking. His temper and rash decisions often causes problems, not only for the team, but for himself.

Despite all this, yes, Raph does have a soft side, (though it's rarely, if ever, displayed), and is very kind-hearted and loves his brothers and Sensei very much and would do anything to protect them, but he would never admit it in order to stay "hard-core". He tends to have a soft side for his pet turtle Spike, who he loves, pampers, and adores.

In the 1987 series' original English-language version, Raphael's voice actor is Rob Paulsen from season one to season nine with Thom Pinto as the 1989 alternate, Hal Rayle as the 1993 alternate, and Michael Gough in the final season. In Turtles Forever, the 1988 version of Raphael is voiced by Sebastian Arcelus.

He is named after the 16th-century Italian painter Raphael.

In 2011 Raphael placed 23rd on IGN's Top 100 Comic Book Heroes.

In addition to the Playmates Toys/Takara action figures, this pamphlet highlights the Dengeki Comics (volumes 1-6), Mutant Warriors video game for the Super Famicom, home video releases for the first two live-action films, and ten volumes of the classic Fred Wolf Turtles cartoon on VHS.

The illustration of the Turtles seen at the top left of this image was also used for the foil packs of one of Takara's TMNT battle card series:

As illustrated by the wraparound cover, the Turtles travel to Egypt to rescue April O'Neil and her friend Molly (obviously modeled on the then-romantic partners of the creative duo) from the Jackal (does every comic franchise have their own version of "Jackal?) who seeks to resurrect the mummy Aunkamen.

Ninja Turtles

Turtle Van Takedown

--Updated with higher-definition scan August 1, 2017--

Panel excerpt from Comic Bom Bom (1995 November)

In this take on the TMNT "manga-verse", April O'Neil briefly mutates into a more feral fashion of her feline form and is captured by the Foot Clan. The Super Turtles must combine their power to form the legendary Turtle Saint in order to defeat Dark Devil Shredder, liberate New York, and rescue April. ~~Whew! :-P

Drawn by manga artist, Hidetsugu Yoshioka, famous for his work on the Transformers franchise. Thanks to Hydra of Allspark.com for publicizing its existence.

Turning April into her mutant feline form was Yoshioka's contribution to the original Comic Bom Bom script, according to his statement in a recent interview: "April was slated to appear in the story, but having her be mutated into a cat was my own whim."

I always loved the way the prototype for the NECA TMNT looked like, which was way more detailed and had a better paint job than the final figures had. So I repainted Donatello with a darker airbrushed shade of green around every muscle and sculpted detail, plus a more detailed lining to crown that classic comic book style. As a final detail, I painted his bandana purple.. I just prefer the multi-colored bandanas for my ninja turtles!
