The Horseshoe Falls seen from Niagara Parkway.

Niagara’s Morningstar Mill

Niagara Falls is collectively composed of 3 waterfalls along the Niagara River on the U.S. and Canada borders. The above is a partial shot of the Horseshoe Falls, also known as Canadian Falls. The other 2 are the Bridal Veils and American Falls.

Niagara Water Falls from Boat island. From Archives 2009

I tried to convey a feeling of drama in this image--I'm not sure if I succeeded (?) I was a little torn between the vast colour shift between the rushing water and the sky but decided to upload regardless and try and get some input/constructive comments on the overall presentation.

Sitting next to Niagara Falls and watching the sunset is one of the most beautiful experience. if conditions are right you will see plenty of rainbows too. hope everyone is doing good.

When most people think of Niagara Falls, they think of the Falls. For those of us that have grown up there, this is a more accurate representation.

by which you can catch souls. She gives most who gives with Joy."

Funny how you can forget everything you know about shooting fireworks at the worst possible time.

This show was a disaster photographically. My exposures were all over the place and I scrambled to try and salvage some shots from the evening as the smoke kept building and moving in my direction.

This was the best of the night and ironically, it's the burst that they set off 15 minutes prior to the actual show to warn guests to find a spot. I heard the "thump" of the shell being launched and managed to trigger the shutter just in time for the burst.

Thanks for stopping by!

The same view downriver on the Upper Niagara River showing the effects of the morning sunrise. A minimalist view.

We had booked 2 nights on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls and running up to this I was checking weather forecasts and it kept saying rain on the full day we had there. Gah, but miraculously it held off most of the day. The dull clouds weren't great but much better than rain!

I used the Lee little stopper here for this 4 second shot.

This picture shows the American Falls, from the balcony of our hotel on the Canadian side. The falls are illuminated on a regular schedule from spotlights on the Canadian side of the Niagara River.

This is a closer view of the outcropping of the Niagara Escarpment (Lockport Formation, of Middle-Silurian age) shown in the previous photo of Snail Shell Harbor on the Garden Peninsula in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The rock consists of limestone (calcium carbonate) and dolomite (calcium-magnesium carbonate). The Escarpment hosts some unique ecological environments with some endangered plant and animal species, both on its forested slopes and on the plateau that it forms. According to Wikipedia the Escarpment is a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve and that it has the oldest forest ecosystem in eastern North America. I read that the oldest trees in eastern North America were recently found on the Escarpment in Michigan, 1500-year-old cedars.
