I read a statement recently about technical vs creative aspects and it got me thinking. I’m at a point now where I feel I’ve moved away from producing just technically good images to making creative images. Having said all that, my general feeling about my work is still one of frustration. I consider myself quite competent with post processing. Yet, too often I’ve come back from a shoot with what I thought were sure keepers, only to find, after hours of frustrating pc time, that I can’t work the image to how I originally imagined it. I then fall into the “I must be a crap photographer if I can’t even do this” trap.

It only dawned on me recently that mastering the technicals is a moving target. It never ends. You learn enough to produce what you currently have in your head. If you cannot produce it, you go away and learn some more (and it applies to pros and amateurs alike). Sorry if this appears somewhat obvious to you. I’ve always known that you should never stop learning but I need reminding every now and then ;)

Anyway, this was one of those images which frustrated me before but now looks almost spot on to how I originally saw it in my head.

Finally found some time to process a few more shots from the Jake Hicks' Creatively Simple Lighting Workshop I attended earlier in the year.
