Happy Pollinator Week! 🐝

Fourteen years ago (2007), in an effort to address the urgent issue of declining pollinator populations, the U.S. Senate unanimously designated one week in June to pollinators. This week is a time to celebrate pollinators and spread the word about what humans can do to help protect them. 🌼

Why does this matter? How does this even effect us? Well, for one, there are more than 200,000 species of pollinators worldwide. And, more than 75% of flowering plant species need the help of pollinators in order to fertilize. Over 1,000 plants worldwide are grown specifically for human consumption (food, beverages, spices, medicine, etc), and guess what?! They all need to be pollinated in order to make the resources on which we depend. So, in short, without pollinators we would not have a lot of the things that we rely on every single day. 🌸

Captured here is a monarch butterfly nectaring a red clover flower. Spotted in Upstate NY, August 2015.

For more information about pollinators and ways you can help, check out The Pollinator Partnership. Consider giving a donation, or planting a few native flowering plants in your yard, or even just educating yourself about the pollinators in your neighborhood. A little bit goes a long way. 💫

...he set about destroying the curtain.

Gospenroda, Oct/2023

Days passed and it didn't look like the weather was getting better. A friend on the road came with news "Looks like tomorrow's the sun is coming out". We couldn't believe what we heard... I woke up at 3 AM in the morning to check the forecast.. It looked... "promising"? Little snowflakes where falling and it was cold AF. Decided to take the risk, woke up everyone who wanted to go for it and started the walk from Laguna Capri to the base of the Mountain. The goal was to get the sunrise from above. Cloudy conditions made it difficult to get the shot, though it left everything in a perfect state. Clean air and beautiful clouds. After a long walk back, I couldn't stop starring at this massive chunk of rock coming out of the horizon. It was my second time on the National Park, and I knew some cool viewpoints of the complex. Kept thinking about this place in particular.

I believe this one is one of the most soothing places to gaze at this imposing sage, who has more than one thing to teach you. Of course, it depends on our perspective on what we receive as a teaching, and finally, it's just us listening to our essence.

I hope everyone can meet this giant at least once in their life. Please feel free to send me any messages asking for information about this place or other places in Chile! Id love to help you! Cheers!

Ohh, to be a fat happy seal on the beach enjoying life at my own pace... 😂

:

📷 Photo captures a solo female Northern Elephant Seal (Mirounga angustirostris) basking in the hazy sunlight on a central Californian beach. The remainder of the rookery was clustered a few hundred yards up the beach. A handful of very large adult males flipped dry sand onto their backs while about a dozen very active juveniles were in the surf, doing what juvenile creatures do best: playing, fighting, yelling, splashing — basically running amuck. It’s no wonder this little lady chose to inchworm her way beyond the masses for some good ol’ fashioned “me-time”. Friends of the Elephant Seal, San Simeon, CA; Sept 2017. 🌊🐘

One of the last opportunities for me this year to get out for an astro shoot. This time with an enthusiastic bunch from Greymouth Photography Club and pretty much perfect conditions :)

📷 Photo captures a rainbow palette of Texas springtime wildflowers, with a bright red Indian Paintbrush (Castilleja coccinea) at the front and center. There’s no denying the fact that Bluebonnets get most of the attention, and rightfully so, but I think these fluorescent Paintbrushes may be my personal favorite. (Subject to change, because I’m terrible at making firm decisions #LibraProblems)

With temperatures dancing around the freeze mark & light fog lifting at the sun's warm touch, this secluded hilltop pond was the perfect place to catch the first light of day -- the perfect place to stand in awe of Mother Nature's extravagant Autumn display. When I wanted to explore the Canadian Rockies, I stayed in a town called Canmore, south of Banff, Alberta. This was one of my favorite locations in and around town where Rundle Forebay Reservoir reflected the pristine and awesome view of Ha Ling and Miner's Peak. Positively stunning! © 2013-Current.

“Well! I’ve often seen a cat without a grin,” thought Alice; “but a grin without a cat!? It’s the most curious thing I ever saw in my life!” 🌙💜💖😸

📷: Photo captured on a crisp November morning, literally just footsteps from my (current) front door in Tennessee. The sun was moments away from breaking the horizon, casting her vibrant colors across the sky, as if celebrating another glorious rising. Birds dipped across the frost-bitten fields, broadcasting the renewal of daylight. Just ten minutes ago I was snuggled in bed, warm & asleep. My body shivered now, I could see my breath. I rubbed my eyes, in hopes to accelerate the “waking up” process. Directly overhead, seemingly watching this scene awaken, a thin sliver of moon glowed like a Cheshire Cat grin through the painted streaks of clouds. I blinked a few more times to clear my vision, then lifted my camera to eye level, and proceeded to get lost in the beauty of the morning... 😍

Half Dome from Glacier Point in Yosemite National Park during sunset. Removed from the park but worth the drive. Shot with Canon 5D mark 3

From last week, mid-deep-freeze in Central Texas. I took a few mini-adventures around the yard while we passed the time in between huddling around a tiny propane heater and waiting for power to come back on. Clearly, ice-glazed things became my muse, forcing me to slow down and take in all of the small details of the freeze, and leaving me with beautiful souvenirs of what was otherwise a terrible experience. Nothing like Mother Nature to keep you humble about basic necessities. All’s well that ends well. 😅❄️
