In 2009, Vicky Mastorides returned to the Department of Neurology as Department Administrator.
Vicky Mastorides was instrumental in the health care process for a long-term faculty member in the USF College of Marine Science, during his struggle with lymphoma. Vicky’s continual availability as liaison between Tampa General Hospital and Moffitt changed the course of his disease, prolonging his life and allowing him quality time with his family before his death in July, 2012.
Mya Breitbart, Associate Professor, College of Marine Science, best recognizes Vicky’s contribution to our USF family, saying, “Vicky’s hard work over those months enabled the faculty member to receive superb care, giving him the best chance at life possible, and gaining him four very valuable months of time – quality, happy time spent with his three young children, getting his affairs in order, and making arrangements for his many graduate students. Vicky’s selfless efforts on his behalf helped to maintain and strengthen the positive work environment within the College of Marine Science, and these exemplary USF employees represent the finest and most decent of core values that we cherish in our society. For her exceptional dedication to helping a USF faculty member in need, Vicky is very deserving of the Outstanding Staff Award.”

An adult American Oystercatcher was throwing himself from one direction to another, like a tic which is an uncontrolled motor movement. It was evident he is suffering from a neurological impairment. I'm not sure if it was due to damage during the incubation period before hatching or physical trauma as an adult.
Whatever the case may be, the Oystercatcher can fly, forage and about a half hour later, I caught a glimpse of the love ritual between himself and his mate.
