Tuesday, 2/9, 6:30pm: Discussions on Networked Publics #1: CULTURE

Featuring: MICHAEL KUBO, MICHAEL MEREDITH, WILL PRINCE, ENRIQUE RAMIREZ, DAVID REINFURT, MIMI ZEIGER. Moderated by KAZYS VARNELIS.

The Network Architecture Lab announces a series of evening panels entitled "Discussions on Networked Publics" at Studio-X to investigate the changing conditions of media, architecture, and urbanism today.

"In a set of five panels--culture, place, politics, infrastructure, and network society--we will explore the consequences of networked publics in detail. Our goal will be to come to an understanding of the changes in culture and society brought by digital media, and how architects, designers, historians, and critics might work through this milieu. Discussions will be recorded for playback on the Internet and eventually edited and transcribed into a pamphlet to be made available at the conclusion of the series."

Sponsored by the Network Architecture Lab.

experimenting some more with ArtRage & zentangling. Seems to lend itself to monotangles for some reason, maybe because it's harder to be detailed with the lines. I do like how I captured my mood (which is very dark and confused today) with this, at least vaguely.

OK, so the man is a genius....

Not the best of shots, but here is why. This was totally unexpected, we walked down the stairs at Clapham Junction and along platform 5, hoping to maybe get one of my elusive 3 Desiros. The genius (Looper23) says 'A yellow 57, one of the named ones', 'please stand clear from the edge of platform 5', this rolls through. Genius!

What does MAN Network mean?

A metropolitan area network (MAN) is a network that interconnects users with computer resources in a geographic area or region larger than LAN.It is similar to a local area network (LAN) but it covers an entire city or campus.

Many LANs connect together to form MAN Network. Thus, MANs are larger than LANs but smaller than wide area networks (WAN). MAN Network are very efficient. It provide fast communication via high-speed fiber optic cables.A MAN is ideal for many kinds of network users because it is a medium-size network.

MANs are uses to build networks with high data connection speeds for cities and towns. The main purpose of MAN is to interconnect two LAN together. MAN also uses routers and switches to transfer data. MAN has a range of over 50kms. The speed of metropolitan area network is about 1000 Mbps.

To create this image I put my network connections to work. Thanks to Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach for pointing me to something Nancy White said about networks being ME directed and communities WE directed.

And thanks to Alec Couros for sharing this connection image from #etmooc with a CC license.

And thanks to someone I can't remember (or find on Google+ ?) for introducing me to this ME to WE graphic idea.

I'm loving that #etmooc is also helping grow my network into stronger community.
