The crew of the Robel Track maintenance Train DR97805 on their way home to the Network Rail Depot adjacent to Retford Station's Platform 2. Seen to the right of the embankment are the floodwaters from the River Idle spilling out onto the flood plain.
The train will run to Thrumpton West Junction, accessing the chord to Retford High Level and their depot.
This is one of the 1,000 cast iron mileposts funded by the Royal Bank of Scotland to mark the creation of the National Cycle Network.
This milepost is on the 18.4 mile (29.6 km) Marriott's Way route and is situated on the roadside next to the Wherry Inn at Geldeston in South Norfolk.
Like a major city, our cells use a complex transportation network to deliver molecular goods to different destinations. A protein called kinesin (blue) is in charge of moving cargo around inside cells and helping them divide. It's powered by biological fuel called ATP (bright yellow) as it scoots along tube-like cellular tracks called microtubules (gray). Since kinesin's movement helps support cell division, blocking its action could potentially derail cancer.
This picture captures a moment in cellular time, where kinesin is stopped in its tracks. It was derived from images captured through a type of electron microscopy that uses a beam of electrons to produce an intensely magnified, high-resolution snapshot of a sample at extremely low temperatures. As part of the lab's new outreach initiative NERSC has started a partnership program with Oakland Technical High School's Computer Science and Technology Academy, a small academy within the larger Oakland Tech High School. On Thursday afternoon June 3rd, 12 students from Oakland Tech and their teacher Emmanuel Onyeador visited the NERSC Oakland Scientific Facility for an introduction to computational science, supercomputer architecture, and a tour of the NERSC machine room. Katie Antypas, a High Performance Computing consultant gave an overview of NERSC Center and an introduction to parallel programming explaining why science problems require such huge computers. Dave Paul, a systems engineer brought out computer nodes and parts from NERSC's older systems and demonstrated how the components have become both more dense and more power efficient as the technology has evolved over time. Each student was able to take home a piece of Seaborg, a Power3 system NERSC decommissioned a few years ago. Finally David Stewart, a network engineer, led the students on a dynamic tour of the machine room, showing not only the computational systems but lifting floor tiles to display the vast networking, cabling and piping infrastructure underneath the floor required to run a center like NERSC.

The first inward leg is seen from a class 319 dual - voltage EMU operating the Thameslink service between Brighton and Bedford, introduced in 1988. We run straight up the former LB & SC mainline, and are booked non-stop from East Croydon to London Bridge - a distance of exactly ten miles. In Uganda, years of neglect had left the national electricity network really run down.
But a new company – Umeme – has been turning things around over the last year 10 years, thanks to British backing from CDC Group.
Their modernisation programme has meant a more reliable electricity supply for homes and businesses alike, not to mention more jobs for the local engineers on the ground – including Haso Engineers Company, which has grown ten-fold as it takes on work to install new meters and put up new cable poles.
As Frederick Kitandwe, Technical Director of Haso, says:
"A lot more people are now employed through the network, which is a good thing for the country, a good thing when you look at taxes, and also a good thing on the ground as far as the reliability of the networks is concerned."
