Built in 1987 from a class 150/1 bodyshell 950001 is a 2 car DMU Track Recording Unit operated by Network Rail. It is normally used over branch lines where Sprinters and Pacers work and where normal track recorders are too heavy. For only, perhaps, the second time the unit made it's way into SE London, seen here passing Lee working 2Q08 12:19 Orpington to Hither Green Reception.

"Network_Unavailable," what an awesome name for a network! We just checked into the hotel in Austin and the Internet is free :-)

Here is an example to showcase some graphic techniques which could be used to better communicate stories within complex networks. Illustrated here are the personal networks of the most and least connected people within the employment categories 'Retired', 'Other' and 'Unemployed'. A magnification also offers more detail into the most connected retired persons personal network. Finally the personal network of the most connectected person within the entire network is displayed (the Postman). Click on the image to enlarge.

For nearly a century, America's railway network was the most effective way to move people and goods around this geographically massive nation. Railroads like this one – the Cumbres & Toltec on the Colorado/New Mexico border – connected into a dense web of track. The US railway network had 430,000 miles of track at its peak, enough to circumnavigate the Earth *seventeen* times.

The Cumbres & Toltec's working days are long gone. Its surviving rails stand isolated from the San Luis & Rio Grande line to its north and Durango & Silverton line to its west. But if you board it for a day-long amble through the peaks and grasslands, you can still sense the phantom pulse of the rails under your feet and feel the awe that that comes from knowing human hands, aided by little more than shovels and dynamite, built something so vast as to tie the far corners of this land into one interconnected whole.

You can see Fripouille's (hidden) display along with Racaille (the quicksilver), Blackbox the Cobalt Qube, the main modem switch (modem is far away next to the entrance of the phone, see the blue cable in the next picture) the main network switch and last but not least, the hole that allows me to run wires through to my bedroom/office.

EDIT: Forgot to mention both Fripouille and the Qube run NetBSD (as you can, somewhat, see from the sticker on the Qube)
