Jet Nest", the nest of aircraft: This is a big steel egg from which the wing tip (or beak) of a jet plane, the same way that a baby bird out of the egg breaking its shell. This work by Magnús Tómasson is symbolically placed on a Icelandic rock mound that takes the place of the nest in the middle of a pond, where it is reflected in good weather. When this photo was taken, on the down at the end of February, the pond was freezed.

A distinctive, small social crow with contrasting, silvery-greay neck shawl and staring whitish eyes; juvenile has duller shawl and eyes. Walks confidently, and can be easy to see where not persecuted; associates readily with crows and Rooks. Flocks can number in the hundreds or thousands in the non-breeding season. Inhabits open and semiopen habitats, from towns and wooded parkland to farmland and sea cliffs; often around stone buildings and chimneys. Nests in cavities. Listen for its distinctive high-pitched “tchaw, tchaw” calls.

A Hornets Nest in a tree - I have deliberately turned it on its side so you can get the full effect - the entrance to the nest is at the base of the narrower side on the right - the exit is at the top of the wider side on the left - I spent several minutes watching them go in and out - fascinating !!! The correct orientation is with the wider end of the nest at the top. You will notice the entrance is larger so they can fly in presumably and the exit is quite narrow , just a small round hole for one at a time.

I loved seeing that the Pine Warblers were preparing a nest nearby. It also delighted that they were using our Lab's hair like the Chickadees do each year.

I'm not even pretending this is a good quality photo! It's just a FUN SHOT.

These two Osprey were fighting over the perch and it was an AMAZING site to see. By the time I got my 500 lens on and focused it was over! But I at least got this shot of the loser taking off and the winner doing her victory dance!

Funny thing is I saw this same pair set up the nest last May in a much more loving manner!!

We were lucky to see this Eastern bluebird nest a few years ago in Hershey, Pennsylvania. I used the zoom lens as not to disturb the nest. What a colorful miracle all cozied up inside waiting to make their grand entrance.

A male saddle-billed stork flies by a tree trunk carrying a large branch in its beak for nest building. These are huge birds with wingspans of ~8 feet. The stork pairs build huge nests at the tops of large trees, such as acacia trees, as seen in the accompanying photo. Tarangire National Park, Tanzania.

One of our bantam eggs in a cute little nest. Wish that wire wasn't there though!

This beautiful wasp was visiting a nest every 15-30 minutes, but I never saw it bring prey. It did excavate the nest hole some. I was able to set up a tripod and stake out the site. The wasp was slowed, perhaps, by the slightly cool weather--70s (F)--on a cloudy summer day. Happy Wing Wednesday!
