Last summer's nest and now sitting empty in the middle of January. I'm glad the wild winterberries were still on the vine and uneaten, giving a nice balance to the image.
Enjoy.

I went back to visit the wasps nest five days later to see how the larvae were progressing. They became very protective this time. I made two photos and left them alone. The larvae have progressed tremendously.
Came across another pair of nesting Nuthatches today in a small tree next to a path. This one is approaching the nesting hole with food for its chicks
Nuthatches narrow the nest hole with mud which then hardens to give them extra security against larger predators such as woodpeckers.

The Kehlsteinhaus (known as the Eagle's Nest in English-speaking countries) is a Third Reich-era edifice erected atop the summit of the Kehlstein, a rocky outcrop that rises above the Obersalzberg near the town of Berchtesgaden. It was presented to Adolf Hitler on his 50th birthday as a retreat and place to entertain friends and visiting dignitaries. Today it is open seasonally as a restaurant, beer garden, and tourist site.

Greetings from the Posesion Productions Team.
The grey herons have returned to my local park and are busy nest building in readiness for the clutch of eggs. A clutch of usually three to five bluish-green eggs is laid. Both birds incubate the eggs for around 25 days, and then both feed the chicks, which fledge when 7-8 weeks old.
Our only visitors so far to the newly re-instated bird feeders have been robins and the occasional blackbird pair. So I was surprised to see this little bird flitting around and even more surprised to capture it and see that it had found something useful in the garden. I think it's a goldcrest...........identification welcomed.
