A good picture day. My picture of al the Empire sign in Trongate, Glasgow has made Picture of the Day in The Scotsman 😄📷 #glasgow #empire #neonsign #pictureoftheday #theScotsman #thescotsmannewspaper 612
Lonely old cafe sign in a depressing part of town. The small strip it's in has a nice angled googie roof.
1969 legacy casino. Don't get caught cheating inside. Like the Tangiers, see that saw, next time we're gonna use it.
Also in downtown Gering was this wonderful bakery neon sign burning brightly. It was Sunday morning and it was not open.
Sullivan's Drive In, DeKalb, IL. I've shot this sign before in the daytime, but I was under the impression that it didn't work. Imagine my surprise when I was driving through DeKalb after dark (something I don't do that often) and it was nicely illuminated!
Tough shot, I didn't have a tripod and it's super dark around there. Now, if I can only get the "CHICKEN" sign lit up, I'd be set!
From the original neon sign graveyard when it was just a dusty lot, long before it was a museum. You can still see this sign and many others, when you book a tour at www.neonmuseum.org/

Fred’burg has a drug store that’s been here since Christ was in diapers. It has an old fashioned lunch counter in the front of the store, with the pharmacy located in the rear.
The neon sign, inside, was shot through a plate glass window, reflecting the buildings behind me.
Update: June 2019 GOING OUT OF BUSINESS SALE ON NOW!
Jeben's Hardware Store
13311 Olde Western Avenue
Blue Island, Illinois.
Cook County, USA
Closed in 2019
In 2022 All the white painted parts of the building were painted a mocha java color. A painted sign in the window reads; BOB CAFE.
As of Sept 2024 the Jeben's neon sign was on the roof leaning up aginst the south wall next to the chimney
There when the chips are down. Pardon the fuzz, moving sign, no tripod along, 1/4 sec F11 K25. 1969.
This sign used to be in front of the South Shore's Gary, Indiana station, and ended up at the Illinois Railway Museum. It's been nicely restored and works - someday I'll get a night shot of it.
This is another scan from that messy roll of film shot on the old Ansco brick.
I guess all these people are in a hurry to get their Christmas shopping done!
In 2012 Forbes Magazine named North Park one of America’s Hippest Hipster Neighborhoods. I didn’t need Forbes Magazine to tell me that since I have been going to this San Diego neighborhood for years. My favorite Christian bookstore, camera shop and coffee lounge are located there or were. I have been patronizing those businesses for years, but now the Christian bookstore has closed down, I do all my camera shopping online and my favorite coffee lounge, Claire de Lune, has gone out of business.
Photographing North Park’s neon sign was a bit dangerous since I was standing in the middle of traffic in the narrow part of the island to capture this long exposure shot. Afterwards, I would normally reward my bravery by heading down the street corner on the right for a nice cup of coffee at Claire de Lune, but since they have closed their doors I had to settle for Starbucks across the street.
Merry Christmas my Flickr friends!
Happy Travels!
