Red Mill Burgers, Interbay, Seattle. Established 1998.

Red Mill takes its name from an older Seattle restaurant, which operated between 1937 and 1967. The two sisters of the owner of the present Red Mill had worked at the original - and brought home food for the family - so the name was chosen as a tribute.

The Tucson Inn, which opened in 1953, was shut down by the city in May, 2017, for building-code violations. The owners say they expect to re-open in the fall.

Maybe. It might be just as well if they don't.

Here's the first paragraph of one of the more charitable Yelp reviews...

"Do the world a favor: rent a bulldozer and drive it into the Tucson Inn. Bury the owners, squatters, broken cars, and semi-feral dogs under a pile of cinderblocks and ashes. But leave the sign--it's iconic and visiting photographers would have to take original pictures without it."

The Zia Lodge in Clovis is just a ghost of its former self but it's wonderful the sign still survives and can be enjoyed on a visit to town. And that "apartments" script is amazing.

I don't think I have a favorite. Mostly because I rarely drink alcohol these days. But back in my party days I did drink a lot of Tequila Slammers, which is not a very sofisticated drink but it was very popular in the mid 1980s. Especially in Greece, and on the party island Ios.
