Oversew the gap as neatly as you can - tiny, tiny stitches are in order. I sew past the start of the machine stitching by half a centimetre or so on each end, it seems stronger that way.

Fold ribbon (wrong sides together, just like it'll be when it's all finished) and pin to short edges, centred on clip mark.

Bring the lower thread through and tie off at the gap, or it will unravel as you keep poking your hand in there to put the stuffing in.

Definite improvements, although it's still wobbly... I love that seams end up on the inside.
