Grandview Trail, Grand Canyon, Arizona
After navigating a switchback on the Grandview Trail, a young woman pauses to look across the Grand Canyon.
Before there were lighthouses on the Peninsula, ships bound for Portland and Astoria navigated their way through the high waves and shifting sandbars, focusing on fluttering white flags and notched trees along the shoreline by day and flickering signal fires by night. These methods were crude at best and, despite heroic efforts, the sea offshore of the Long Beach Peninsula became known as ‘The Graveyard of the Pacific’.

Big Room Trail-55
An image captured while walking the Big Room Trail in Carlsbad Caverns National Park with a view towards an amazing display of underground formations.
Two elderly people navigate a busy street while dressed warmly for the cold weather. One carries sticks, their expressions reflecting determination amidst the urban surroundings.
This image is the eighty-second published (1/15/2014) by PhotoVogue Italia.
This young bald eagle, its head and tail feathers not yet turned to white, is still being tutored by its parents as they give him the skills to navigate life and therefore eventually to be free.
Wishing the same blessing for all young people, and a joy filled new year to you all.
In Indiana Dunes National Park while walking through a forested setting. This was along the Long Lake Trail with a view looking to the northeast. My thinking in composing this image was to use the hiking trail to my front as a leading line into the wooded setting and image. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 4 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.
Those of you in Europe will have experienced the widespread thunderstorms over the last couple of weeks. This is what it looks like from the air. For us the skies are our workplace and thunderstorms take up a heck of a lot of room. What you may not appreciate is quite how large they are. They are usually as high or higher than any airliner can fly and can be 30 to 100 miles across. You only really get a true impression of their size when you see another airliner flying past one. I was at 38,000ft and the Airbus 320 in the photo was at 37,000ft and neither of us were above the tops of the storms. Going through them is not an option so we had to pick our way around them. The only people working harder than us on days like these are ATC who still have to keep us apart.

Navigating the winds (2019) - Lucius Lu China
'Navigating the Winds' by Lucius Lu, CHINA
Materials: stainless steel
Artist Statement: The mirrored and bright surface of the stainless steel boat contrasts with the frosted texture of the vertical body, evoking a profound sense of the passage of time. A towering figure stands firmly and very still at the bow of the boat, calmly facing the wind, whilst behind, a weathered and open stern symbolises numerous obstacles that have been overcome; stillness and motion are poetically contrasted.

The Cordillera Sarmiento is a mountain range located in the Chilean Patagonia to the west of Puerto Natales named after Pedro Sarmiento de Gamboa, who was a Spanish explorer who navigated the region's waterways between 1579 and 1580. On the official maps of the Chilean IGM, not a single feature of the Cordillera de Sarmiento has been given a name, in part due to the total lack of human presence in the area. Nevertheless, over the years, explorers and climbers have named the summits, lakes, glaciers, and rivers. With nearly 2,000 metres of jagged relief, the cordillera has a profile somewhat similar to the French Alps, but its glaciation is much more extensive, sending large glacier snouts into tidewater.
