Song by Duran Duran

Lyrics

Came in from a rainy Thursday on the avenue

Thought I heard you talking softly

I turned on the lights, the TV, and the radio

Still, I can't escape the ghost of you

What has happened to it all?

Crazy, some'd say

Where is the life that I recognize?

(Gone away)

But I won't cry for yesterday

There's an ordinary world

Somehow I have to find

And as I try to make my way

To the ordinary world

I will learn to survive

Passion or coincidence

Once prompted you to say

"Pride will tear us both apart"

Well now pride's gone out the window

Cross the rooftops

Run away

Left me in the vacuum of my heart

What is happening to me?

Crazy, some'd say

Where is my friend when I need you most?

(Gone away)

But I won't cry for yesterday

There's an ordinary world

Somehow I have to find

And as I try to make my way

To the ordinary world

I will learn to survive

Ooh-ooh-ooh, ah-ah

Oh, yeah, oh

Papers in the roadside

Tell of suffering and greed

Fear today, forgot tomorrow

Ooh, here besides the news

Of holy war and holy need

Ours is just a little sorrowed talk

And I don't cry for yesterday

There's an ordinary world

Somehow I have to find

And as I try to make my way

To the ordinary world

I will learn to survive

Every world

Is my world (I will learn to survive)

Any world

Is my world (I will learn to survive)

Any world

Is my world

Every world

Is my world

Back in the canyon, this was as far up river as we made it. Walking downstream turned out to be not much easier than the way up, but plenty of breaks for pictures.

Sarovar Vihar, also known as Patratu Lake Resort, is a picturesque lakeside retreat located approximately 35 km from Ranchi, in the Ramgarh district of Jharkhand. Nestled beside the scenic Patratu Dam, this resort offers a blend of natural beauty and modern amenities, making it a popular destination for both relaxation and adventure

Patratu Lake is renowned for its boating experiences. Visitors can enjoy motorboat rides, pedal boating, and, on occasion, cruise boat services. However, as of May 2025, the resort's cruise boats, which were previously stationed in Prayagraj for the Mahakumbh festival, have yet to return, leading to some visitor disappointment

Eleven Mile Canyon never disappoints. I thought there would be a lot more snow up there today, but quite easy to navigate in my little Prius.

I composed this image while attempting to navigate the surrounds of Utah's Dixie National Forest, and losing my way. Grimaces turned to smiles, though, when I encountered this good-looking and happy soul. I just had to park my car and get out to say hello and have an 'over the fence' conversation.

The Steintor U-Bahn station in Hanover features a distinctive architectural design created by the Milanese designer Alessandro Mendini in 1997. This station is known for its bold black and yellow checkerboard pattern, which creates a striking visual impact. Mendini's design consists of two narrow, identical structures facing each other, with a passage opening in the middle. The roofs are topped with yellow pointed hats, further adding to the unique appearance of the station (Source: regiopia.de + + + regiopia.com).

A male Northern Shoveler navigates a shallow, flooded ditch and field next to a backroad in the Frenchman River Valley. All I did was stop my car, point, and shoot. There's a lot of water around in the spring when ranchers contract for irrigation services. Water is diverted from the Frenchman River, passing through irrigation canals that allow them to flood their fields to grow grass and alfalfa for their livestock. Migratory birds including waterfowl and shorebirds take advantage of these isolated bits of wetland habitat. Somehow, though, they know not to nest here, and instead find places where the water will remain long enough to raise a brood of young ones.

When this drake swam by, the background was mostly white from reflected clouds. Within a few seconds, though, it had moved to where the water was reflecting pale blue sky, and these proved to be much better shots. Backgrounds are as important as the main subject.

Following on from my previous shot at Littlehampton harbour, this is the arm on the West side of the harbour with the Port navigation light on, My longer exposures did what I had envisaged and that is to capture the navigation lights on, I wanted to capture both lights on in a long exposure which I managed to do which i`ll show in another shot from here as the sun set. The darker lines are incoming waves, there was a nice swell running that day.

A detail of the scene but without the wolf. I like this one because you can see the texture of the cinnamon stick and the snickerdoodles.

A setting looking to the southwest at a roadside pullout just outside of Marathon, Texas. My thinking in composing this image was to use the road and center stripe as a leading line into the image with Santiago Peak as that distant point in the image center. I took advantage of the swiveled out LCD screen and used LiveView to center and line up the image as well as finding a focus point. That would also help to minimize my time on the road, even if there was no traffic present. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 4 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

Probably the thickest fog I've seen.

During a full-weekend engineering possession on the Caerphilly branch (presumably at Heath Junction), Freightliner 'Shed' 66621 heads a rake of discharged ballast wagons back to Westbury early on Sunday morning running as the 9.00am departure from this station, Cardiff Queen Street. Out of sight and tailing the formation is sister unit 66592.

For what is an incredibly busy station during the week, Sundays seems to start slowly here with barely a handful of passengers distributed around the place. In fact the first train to the main Central station wasn't due out until 9.11am.

The chap on platform 4 studying his phone while waiting for a train up to the Valleys, doesn't seem too impressed by the presence of a proper diesel locomotive. Maybe he should be - with the recent demise of regular coal traffic through the station, the appearance of proper locomotives is a pretty rare event here these days.

Much has changed in the city, even over the last 5-10 years, with many new buildings gracing the skyline, and more currently being built. And, with the Welsh Senedd based here, it does have the feeling of a city on the rise.

Navigating the Irish Sea in a small boat means that you are basically at the mercy of the tide, which in some areas is fearsome. The tide therefore dictates the time at which you need to get going.

So we had to get up at 04:30.

I'll never enjoy being woken up that early, but once you've got through the horridness of extracting yourself from bed, it definitely has it's compensations. Dawn sailing is one of my very favourite things.

Best things in life are not things

Bumblebee on Cone Flower

A location I had been thinking about for a while.

I had to take our car in for some attention and the garage was about halfway there so there was an opportunity to go the rest of the way to Littlehampton for the shots I had in mind afterwards.

I got there just on sunset time, my aim was to shoot the harbour lights together, they both don`t blink at the same time so a long exposure was called for to synchronize both lights on at the same time.

I`ll post the Port navigation light in due course and then the full wide shot as the tide dropped, I was then able to get down on the wet sand to take in not only both harbour lights but also a rather spectacular sunset as well.

I have shot Littlehampton harbours lights way back in 2015 but the tide on that occasion was really low, i`ll pop that shot in the box below.
