I made my annual pilgrimage to the university campus ponds for a fresh stash of lily photos a couple of days ago, but a tiny white butterfly had other plans for me. Flitting and skittering around, he completely stole the show.

This was my first time pairing the 40-150mm lens with the focus bracketing and stacking feature on my Olympus, and I don't think it performed too badly.

I hope this little flutterbug’s elegance makes you smile as much as it did me. 🌿

Many thanks for every fave and comment, I appreciate them all!

Timeless Elegance: A Monochromatic Portrait of the Sunbird

Witness the timeless elegance and intricate details that transcend the boundaries of color.

With the absence of hues, the focus shifts to the sunbird's form, highlighting the delicate curves of its body and the graceful extension of its wings. Every line and contour becomes more pronounced, revealing the true essence of this magnificent creature. In this monochromatic realm, the sunbird's beauty takes on a new dimension, captivating our senses with its understated allure.

The contrast between light and shadow adds depth and drama to the composition, accentuating the intricate patterns of the sunbird's feathers. Each tiny barb and filament becomes a work of art, delicately etched by nature's hand. The monochrome palette amplifies the textures, transforming them into a tactile feast for the eyes.

As we immerse ourselves in this black and white Photograph, we are reminded of the power of simplicity. Stripped of vibrant colors, the sunbird's allure lies in its pure essence, showcasing the harmonious balance between light and darkness. Scars of the Wind - Iphiclides podalirius

A macro photograph of a scarce swallowtail butterfly on a purple blossom. The damage on the wings tells a story of survival against the elements, captured with a shallow depth of field that isolates the intricate textures against a smooth bokeh background.

Any other T. Rex fans out there? Ride a White Swan by T. Rex is one of my fave songs of theirs.

I have a very wide and varied taste in music, but I do have a bit of a penchant for 60's/70's British bands. Think Yardbirds, Who, Cream, The Animals, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Kinks, T. Rex, Queen, Pink Floyd, Bowie, Slade, The Sweet etc.

Fun fact #1

Swan was T. Rex's first significant hit single all the way back in 1970 & helped shape the glam rock era. From 1970 to 1973, T. Rex were extremely popular in the UK, with a run of eleven top ten singles, four of which reached number one.

Fun fact #2

Google says "Ride a White Swan” is a song that encourages individuality, self-expression, and the pursuit of personal freedom. With its enchanting lyrics and dreamlike imagery, it invites the listener to embark on a journey of self-discovery and exploration. It is a timeless reminder to embrace our uniqueness, let go of societal expectations, and ride the waves of life with grace and courage. And here I was thinking it was just a catchy, breezy little number!

Have a great week everyone!

I dare you to try not bopping along to Ride a White Swan here:

Jutarnja gimnastika mrkog plavca

I leptiri imaju svoje male jutarnje rituale.

Morning Stretch of the Brown Argus

Even butterflies have their morning routines. This Brown Argus (Aricia agestis) stretches its wings to shake off the dew. After a hot and dry summer, flowers are scarce, yet nature always finds a way to keep its beauty alive.

I love the design of the Nasturtium blooms.....I can see how the bees are so attracted to them.

I am growing some in hanging baskets (started from seeds) and this bloom was backlit by the early morning sun.

From the green bract bursts an explosion of color: vivid orange and deep blue, like a tropical bird taking flight. The Bird of Paradise doesn’t simply bloom, it performs. A theatrical gesture, a spark of exotic beauty that turns the garden into somewhere far away.
