A Morning Glory with a single, perfect heart shaped leaf found in my garden early one morning.
Taken with Canon gear. Post was in On1. The texture and background were created in Corel Painter.
Woohoo — early summer tomorrow with highs of 30°C! 🌞 A bright, summery sunflower bokeh shot feels just right.
For some reason, I’ve had giraffes on my mind today. As you do.
Now, I hope this doesn’t sound like a tall story, but did you know giraffes can grow up to eighteen feet? Personally, I’ve only ever seen them with four. Anyway, I decided to buy one online. Honestly, I thought it was too tall an order, but to my surprise it actually arrived. Naturally, I took him to a bar. He lay down on the floor and the barman said, “Hey, you can’t leave that lying there!” I replied, “It’s not a lion, it’s a giraffe.”
Back home I offered him his favourite fruit — necktarines. With a giraffe, a little really does go a long way. Trouble was, he was a bit of a snob — always looking down on the other animals. In the end I had to let him go. Too high-maintenance.
And here’s a question for you: what would you do if you were riding a horse at full speed, with a giraffe next to you and a lion chasing you? Easy. Get off the carousel. 😉
Have a fun Friday, and thank you to everyone who takes the time to comment — it’s always greatly appreciated!
There is a long tradition of photographers reaching toward the language of painting — not out of inadequacy, but out of curiosity. Photography captures what is; painting interprets what might be. Somewhere between those two impulses lies a fertile middle ground where images can become more than their origins. This piece lives in that middle ground. The painterly manipulation is not a trick or a shortcut; it is a deliberate choice to explore what happens when a photograph is allowed to dream a little. The textures soften, the colors blend, the background becomes a suggestion rather than a statement. The image begins to feel less like a record and more like a memory. And memory, after all, is rarely sharp. It is atmospheric. It is selective. It is shaped by emotion as much as by fact. By leaning into this painterly aesthetic, the image becomes a meditation on perception itself. What do we remember about a moment? The exact details, or the feeling it left behind? The cardinal becomes a vessel for that question.

An Alaskan brown bear at a wildlife sanctuary, in Alaska funnily enough. Textured background added in post

Morning dew on gladiolus
Early morning — the silence between breath and the first birdsong.
On the edge of light, the gladiolus stands — adorned with drops that sparkle like tiny diamonds of the newborn day.
No rush, only the breath of nature and light awakening through the lens.
Captured handheld with Canon EF 100mm L Macro — chasing that fleeting calm where light becomes life.

In the embrace of fiery petals,
a secret world unfolds.
Emerald whispers curl around amber dreams,
as if spring and flame have struck an accord.
A bloom both fierce and tender,
where the pulse of nature beats in a kaleidoscope of color.
