Today I found a bee at play,
and somehow it brightened up my day.
Resting softly on a golden flower,
enjoying its own quiet hour.
I stopped and smiled at what I saw,
a tiny worker without a flaw.
Gathering treasures, light and sweet,
from petals resting at its feet.
And while I watched beneath the sun,
I wondered if our days were one.
Was I happy because of the bee,
or did the bee feel the same as me?
Perhaps we both enjoyed the light,
the golden bloom, the moment right.
Two travelers meeting on life's way,
both finding brightness in the day.

Una silueta imponente a baja magnificación. Este macho de Dorcus encephalus, procedente de Java, despliega unas mandíbulas curvadas que lo identifican como parte del fascinante mundo de los lucánidos. 💀
Su superficie mate y granulada, salpicada de pelos anaranjados, contrasta con la elegancia pulida de sus mandíbulas. Este tipo de escarabajo ciervo no solo destaca por su armadura negra, sino también por su simetría estructural, que se vuelve aún más hipnótica bajo el objetivo macro. 🔍
A bold silhouette at low magnification. This male Dorcus encephalus, from Java, showcases the curved mandibles that mark it as part of the fascinating Lucanidae family. 💀
Its matte, textured exoskeleton dotted with orange hairs contrasts with the polished elegance of its mandibles. This stag beetle doesn’t just impress with its black armor, but also with the structural symmetry that becomes hypnotic under the macro lens. 🔍

The patient huntress (Praying mantis)
A close encounter with one of the most fascinating predators in the microcosm. The praying mantis owes its name to the typical posture of its front legs, which resembles a praying position. In reality, this pose hides a lethal tension: it is ready to spring in a fraction of a second to capture its prey. It is incredible to observe how its camouflage allows it to blend perfectly with the surrounding vegetation.
There is something hypnotic about the gaze of a mantis. Motionless as a statue, elegant and yet disturbing at the same time. In this shot, I tried to capture not only the insect, but also the personality that shines through its calculated movements. A small queen of her vast green kingdom.

La cacciatrice paziente (La mantide religiosa)
Un incontro ravvicinato con uno dei predatori più affascinanti del microcosmo. La Mantide Religiosa deve il suo nome alla tipica postura delle zampe anteriori, che ricorda un atteggiamento di preghiera. In realtà, questa posa nasconde una tensione letale: è pronta a scattare in frazioni di secondo per catturare la preda. È incredibile osservare come il suo mimetismo le permetta di fondersi perfettamente con la vegetazione circostante.
C'è qualcosa di ipnotico nello sguardo di una mantide. Immobile come una statua, elegante e allo stesso tempo inquietante. In questo scatto ho cercato di catturare non solo l'insetto, ma la personalità che traspare dai suoi movimenti calcolati. Una piccola regina del suo vasto regno verde.

Two slender mushrooms rising through wet grass after a cool October rain. The droplets were perfect little mirrors reflecting the first light.
Shot with my Nikon Z6II and Nikkor Z 105mm f/2.8 Macro. Focus stacked in Helicon Focus and polished in Lightroom. ISO was sky-high, but Lightroom 14’s Denoise handled it beautifully.
In this direct gaze, you might almost see a medieval knight’s helmet.
The beauty of insects lies in the details our eyes often overlook.
A single white tropical flower with a soft yellow center emerges from dense, deep-green foliage, its petals lightly weathered at the edges. Palm fronds blur into the background.
This little bloom was tucked into the greenery on St. John, quietly standing out against the deep island greens around it. Simple, vivid, and unmistakably Caribbean.

Spotted this stunning Green Pit Viper (Trimeresurus trigonocephalus) during a walk through the lush Kanneliya Rainforest in Sri Lanka. A true master of camouflage — vibrant, silent, and still.
This species is venomous, though not among Sri Lanka’s deadliest snakes. Its hemotoxic venom can cause swelling, tissue damage, and pain, but fatalities are rare with proper treatment.
It’s often overlooked, blending seamlessly into its surroundings — striking only when threatened. A beautiful reminder of how wild and raw nature can be.

Three dried seed pods lean in the same direction, like they're all listening to something I can't hear. A fine web stretches between them, catching the light just enough to show, and something small has already gotten tangled in it. Behind them, a bit of moss climbs the tree bark, blurred into soft colour. I keep coming back to shots like this one — quiet, small, easy to miss if you're not looking.
A Tachina fly, one of nature’s fascinating parasitoids, rests on wildflowers. These flies lay their eggs on caterpillars or beetle larvae, where the emerging larvae consume the host from within. Macabre but vital for keeping ecosystems balanced. Here, the adult enjoys nectar, playing its role in pollination before the next generation begins its hidden life cycle

One of the smallest mushrooms I’ve ever found—barely the size of a pinky nail—standing among wet leaves and moss. Captured handheld on my Nikon Z6II and Nikkor Z 105mm f/2.8 Macro.

A close encounter with a fly resting in the sunlight, revealing details that usually pass unnoticed.
The striking red compound eyes immediately draw attention, but it was the metallic sheen of the body, the fine hairs and the delicate structure of the wings that made the subject so interesting. Against the soft green background, those intricate textures become remarkably prominent.
Macro photography has a way of transforming the commonplace into something altogether more fascinating.

Two young acorns rest against a dark oak leaf, still fresh and green in the middle of August. Their smooth surfaces and textured cups create a striking contrast, while the surrounding foliage fades softly into the background. At this stage they seem far removed from the familiar brown acorns scattered across the ground in autumn. Another quiet reminder that the next season is already taking shape.
Zwei junge Eicheln liegen zwischen den dunklen Blättern der Eiche, noch frisch und vollständig grün. Besonders schön ist der Gegensatz zwischen ihrer glatten Oberfläche und den fein strukturierten Fruchtbechern. Mit den braunen Eicheln, die später im Jahr auf dem Boden liegen werden, haben sie im Moment noch wenig gemeinsam. Mitten im August entsteht hier bereits ganz unauffällig ein Stück Herbst.
