Description:
This is a tight flower cluster at the pre-bloom stage on an evergreen shrub. The buds are rounded, pale cream to light pink, with darker reddish sepal tips.
The leaves are thick, glossy, and dark green, giving the plant a dense, polished look typical of ornamental foundation shrubs. Indian hawthorn generally flowers in spring, then may produce dark blue-black to purple-black fruit later in the season.
Close look-alikes:
Red tip photinia (Photinia × fraseri): also has white spring flower clusters, but usually shows more obvious red new growth and more elongated leaves.
Firethorn (Pyracantha coccinea): also has white flower clusters, but typically has thorns and a different branching habit.
Magnolia Cone Close-Up. Found it while walking under a large Magnolia tree. This one fell off the tree prematurely either by weather or blight.

A single orange blossom stands quietly against a dark background, drawing every bit of attention without asking for it. Layer by layer, its petals unfold with remarkable symmetry, glowing in the soft light of a summer day. There is no need for a wider scene when one flower already tells enough. Sometimes simplicity is the strongest composition.

I photographed this young bird in Arkansas, shortly after it left the nest but while it was still under parental care.
The spotted breast, short tail, and slightly fluffy feathers are telltale signs of a fledgling. This stage is brief but vital, as the bird learns essential survival skills while still relying on its parents for food and guidance.
After weeks without rain, a few drops finally reached the leaves today. It was far from a real downpour, but the scattered water droplets were enough to change the familiar summer green for a moment. On the textured surface of the leaf, every drop caught the light before the dry weather returned. A brief trace of rain after a long, dry stretch.
Nach Wochen ohne Regen kamen heute endlich ein paar Tropfen herunter. Für einen richtigen Regenschauer reichte es nicht, aber auf den Blättern hinterließen sie wenigstens für kurze Zeit ihre Spuren. Das vertraute Sommergrün sah mit den kleinen Wassertropfen plötzlich ganz anders aus. Ein kurzer Moment Regen nach einer langen trockenen Zeit.
