Twenty-five years ago, Hans Imhoff, renowned chocolatier and largest shareholder of Stollwerck, fulfilled a long-held dream by opening his chocolate museum on the Rheinauhafen peninsula in Cologne, in the former customs headquarters from the port The idea first came to him while moving the Stollwerck factory 18 years earlier, when he discovered a treasure trove of machinery and other materials worthy of display in a museum. In 1991, Hans Imhoff purchased from the local authorities the entire northern tip of the peninsula, including the port customs building, originally built in 1896, the Malakoff Tower built in 1854 and the steel swing bridge, the most old Cologne bridge, over the Rhine. Plans for the expansion and renovation of the building were drawn up by architect Fritz Eller who wanted to restore the historic building to its pre-war glory, because since the war only emergency measures had been taken. After 13 months of construction work, the Imhoff Chocolate Museum was officially opened in 1993.

At the northern tip of the port, the architect built a glass pavilion in the shape of a ship's bow to house the production line designed specifically for the museum as well as a three-meter-high golden chocolate fountain. On the west side of the customs building, facing the city and the swing bridge, Fritz Eller inserted a glass cube between the two towers of the building. This houses a tropicarium created in collaboration with the University of Bonn, which naturally includes cocoa trees. The design is complemented on the south side by a semi-circular administrative building.

Showing the naturally rough pool through the reflection contrasting with the waves outside.

The pool is situated on the north side of Blowhole Point with access from the harbour road. There is ample parking and there are amenities and change rooms on site. The pool is irregular in shape with variable depth and natural rock floor. A shallow wading area suitable for very young children is also available.

From the local newspaper www.illawarramercury.com.au/story/2104955/where-the-kiama...

The natural rock formations of Kiama's Blowhole Point rock pool have been attracting tourists to Kiama since the 1880s with its sweeping views across to Bombo and north across the Illawarra.

Located at the southern side of the harbour, not far from the Kiama Blowhole, the pool is irregular in shape, with variable depth and natural rock floor.

In the early days it was a men-only pool, complementing ladies' baths at Pheasant Point on the opposite side of the harbour.

Bill Chalmers is part of the Kiama Ice Kubes, a group of hardy swimmers that since 1980 has kept the Blowhole Point Pool in use all year round. The clubs season starts in May and runs through to grand final day. "Some people complain about the oysters in here, but they help keep it clean," he said.

▶ Photographer's note:

Why this photo of a lowly pine cone? Because gravity and wind had dropped the cone, 'just so,' in the middle of a concrete trail, like naturally occurring 'feng shui.' Even the shadow vignette in the image corners was produced in situ, not by post-processing.

Naturally we couldn't let this guy get away without having a photo shoot. He (or she) kept doing this, and then rushing straight towards the lens. Crazy turtle...

We were at risk to miss everything due to the clouds. These days, the weather is pleasant but the clouds are every now and then.

To my bad luck, we could not leave for the trip on time and missed the sunset which was much more interesting than this.

الحَمْد لله‎‎ still we got some sunrise photos and to have the sun rise in such a naturally open place as well as to catch it on your SLR camera is ABSOLUTELY ASTONISHING!

Alone Again, Naturally

Gilbert O Sullivan

To think that only yesterday

I was cheerful, bright and gay

Looking forward to, but who wouldn't do

The role I was about to play

But as if to knock me down

Reality came around

And without so much as a mere touch

Cut me into little pieces

Leaving me to doubt

All about God and His mercy

For if He really does exist

Why did He desert me

In my hour of need?

I truly am indeed

Alone again, naturally

~ Another Cell Phone capture ~

So, during the night I woke up thinking that Ray had whacked me on the head. Understandably, I was rather perturbed! However, I figured he was asleep and didn’t mean to, so I rolled over and faded back to sleep – only to have it happen again! And then immediately again, followed by the tell-tale sound of ‘plop’ as a frog fell into the water. I’m assuming our tent was mistaken by the critters as just another big rock that they wanted to get to the top of. So, for the remainder of the night I had frogs jumping on my head only to slide off the tent and splat into the water. How cute is that?! Lol

Amazing incredible nature. Not photoshop!!!

One of the things that really stuck out to me about driving through the Iron Range Sub were the tailings piles. Hardly any of the mountains and hills in the region formed naturally. No, many of them have been built over the last 140 years as the Mesabi range has had its iron and taconite exploited. Biwabik sits between artificial and real mountains alike, creating a truly stunning scene with its roundhouse remains and small yard. It was a location we had completely missed the day prior, and we knew we had to shoot it.

Former CNW C40-8s, bought from UP nearly a decade ago, power all ore movements on CNs Iron Range sub. No EMDs run ore or empty cars between Iron Junction and Two Harbors, only the MRF local. We found ourselves viewing the C40-8s of the range more often than planned, but they were surprisingly active on our trip out there. They boasted wonderful GE chug, nice horns, and friendly crews - what more could you ask for? Especially when the light was just right...

It was a little wait here at Biwabik as the westbound empty train came to meet the eastbound loads, but once the empties were gone, CN 2027 led the C40-8 three-pack out of the South Biwabik siding, and they were off. We rarely went farther east than this, figuring road access was tricky, but later looks on maps suggested that we could do more, though we'd be unable to return to the Mesabi if anything lit up over there. Another trip will have to cover that!
