The Externsteine, are a unique cultural monument that has fascinated people since time immemorial. A medieval, sacred site in the midst of bizarre Sandstone cliffs, this is how visitors experience the Externsteine in the heart of the Lipperland.
The characteristic Rock formation rises up to 40 meters into the air. Both the viewing platform with the staircase from the 19th century, as well as the medieval grotto bear witness to the eventful history.
Above all, however, the relief of the Descent from the Cross, which was carved into the rocks by medieval stonemasons, is of worldwide importance.
The oldest nature reserve in Lippe around the Rock group invites you to immerse yourself in early history with its surrounding forests.
The Externsteine are part of the middle mountain range of the Teutoburg Forest, which is mainly composed of sandstones from the Lower Cretaceous period.
In the course of mountain building about 70 million years ago, the originally flat sandstone was pressed vertically in the area of the mountain range.
This monumental group of rocks, one of the most remarkable natural and cultural monuments in Central Europe, still raises many questions today.

Natural Dam, Arkansas.
3 shot pano that I put together in the spring but never posted.
Natural Dam is only about 6 feet tall but is a very dramatic scene as it stretches 200 feet across Mountain Fork Creek in western Arkansas, especially when it's running well.
My favorite Natural Dam pano below.

Number 3 in my Natural Elements theme for this week. Wind Pump on the Norfolk Broads ready to use the power of the wind to maintain the water levels. Norfolk, UK 2009.
?Number 2 in my Natural Elements theme for this week. Woodmouse full of daytime confidence searching the grass for something to eat. East Sussex, UK August 2008.
A natural forest is a forest ecosystem that develops and remains largely free from significant human intervention, characterized by a rich diversity of species, a complex age structure with trees of all ages, a significant amount of dead wood, and a functioning natural community of plants, fungi, and animals. Unlike managed forests or plantations, which are often monocultures created for timber production, natural forests are shaped by natural processes like storms and fires, allowing trees to complete their entire life cycle from seed to decomposition.

Another look at one of my neoregelia tiger hybrids ( I think this could be Norman Bates x Blushing Tiger ). Bromeliad leaves form a cup or tank in their centre which collects water for their survival. Their roots are more for stabilising or anchoring themselves to a tree branch or a rock in their natural habitats.
On another note, the country's first batch of Covid-19 vaccines arrived today. Vaccinations will start on Wednesday this week and continue for a year until February 2022 to achieve herd immunity.
