Taken in the house at North Brother Island

From our hike last Saturday. Part of the walk led us through some woodland following the North Teign River. A lovely picnic spot and in a few days/weeks, the rhododendrons lining the river will add even more beauty to the spot.

This photo was taken with my first digital camera, a Kodak -automatic, of which I was very proud back then :-).

With the sun setting fast on this freezing February day 56124 gives us the full glint treatment as she runs off the North Staffs line at North Staffs Jnc with the 1530 Pinnox Sidings to Chaddeston empty stone train.

I have been messing with this shot for a few days trying to find the best way to present it. A black and white version was looking favourite until I decided to crop the sky out which was a bit bland. The dead space worked really well and shows the glint off to the max....I think.

VTR 206 leads a train of interchange traffic across the Walloomsac River at North Hoosick, NY amid some nice fall color. Hoosick Jct. is only a short distance ahead. For many years 206 operated wearing this neatly touched-up RailTex paint scheme. It was only recently repainted into the current standard Vermont Rail System red livery.

I have seen photos from at least two others of the Sink House, and I wanted to do something different - something they hadn't shot and something I wouldn't normally shoot.

Is this it? I have no idea. But I do enjoy what happened here. Getting a two second exposure shooting with HP5 pushed to 1600 in bright sunlight was a lot of fun.

The North Lodge, built in 1877 as the main entrance to Rauceby Hall and park in the Tudor Gothic style.

The villages of North & South Rauceby are located a few miles west of the town of Sleaford, Rauceby Hall sits in parkland between the two villages.

This photograph is of the North Saskatchewan River as it winds through Alberta, Canada's David Thompson Country. On this brief road trip, I followed scenic Highway 11 as it tracked the fur trading trails of David Thompson, the fearless explorer who mapped Canada from the Great Lakes to the Pacific.

David Thompson Country is located in West Central Alberta, just north of Calgary. The area boasts amazing natural and cultural history and its hiking trails and camping sites showcase mother nature’s very best.

The Cree name for the Saskatchewan River was “Kisiskatchewanisipi” or “swift-flowing river.” The modern spelling Saskatchewan was adopted in 1882 when the area became a district of the North West Territories (it would later become a Canadian province in 1905).

Along the Merced River New Year's Eve. Calm, Cold but no snow. Dead calm. Yosemite National Park.

The shoreline at Gooseberry Falls State Park has many geological features, as do most places on Lake Superior's North Shore.

Lava flows, the remnants of massive volcanic activity during the time that the Midcontinent Rift was active, are the stars of the show up here. They are beautiful, interesting, and varied in their shape, color, size and condition.

For me, personally, the rock formations on Superior's shore also contain a spiritual energy that I can tap into whenever I come up. The ones here at Gooseberry have been an oft-used source of that energy for me.

Gooseberry Falls State Park is located in Castle Danger, Minnesota (north of Two Harbors) on Lake Superior's North Shore.

This Thanksgiving, I'm thankful that Canadian Pacific (albeit now CPKC) finally figured out how to run their F Units in correct A-B-A fashion.

The sun has barely crested the horizon as this inspection trip dips downgrade to the fill and bridge which carry the Carrington Sub over the James River just west of Kensal, North Dakota. While the train overnighted in Harvey, the power was spun to allow the newly PTC equipped 4107 to be tested for the first time in the states on this day's marathon run to Glenwood, Minnesota.

Struggled to get the bird sharp in the heat haze yet I loved the setting of the bird in the wildflowers. This was taken on the Udal pensinsula, North Uist - a truly magical place.

Some nice colours pre-sunrise this morning at Tynemouth North Pier. Changing weather at present and might be some snow on the horizon apparently!
