New Friends

I met two new friends during my last camping trip last week to Ashegra, an hour north of Madina. I prepared two of my favorite healthy dishes: some fish stew and some salad. When I was washing the dishes I found two new friends feasting on a piece of cucumber.

What kind of friendship ties two different insects like these you see in the photo? I know! They are relatives. The big black one is a beetle and the red small one is her "aunt." 😉

Enjoy.

Charadrius obscurus Gmelin,

The New Zealand dotterel is a familiar bird of sandy east coast beaches in the northern North Island, but is sparsely distributed around much of the rest of the country. There are two widely separated subspecies: the northern New Zealand dotterel is more numerous, and breeds around the North Island; the southern New Zealand dotterel was formerly widespread in the South Island, and now breeds only on Stewart Island. Southern New Zealand dotterels are larger, heavier, and darker than northern New Zealand dotterels.

While in New Zealand, we hiked through many miles of temperate forest. Although it was very beautiful, it wasn't easy to capture with the camera. Most of the time, the forest scenes just looked too busy and flat to the camera. By including part of a trail through this forest along with some sunrise light in the background, I was able to get an image that worked. All the ferns you see are actually tree ferns. Some of them will grow as tall as palm trees. This forest is near the West Coast of the South Island at Ship Creek.

New - Aurora HDR 2017 (and upcoming Windows version, which will be released sometime after the Mac version, will come with all the features of Aurora HDR 2017 — I thought I would get that out of the way first since it's the most common question.) :) More info on ift.tt/2aUvulM That teases just a few of the new features like batch processing, new tonemapping, way faster, etc etc. I'm using it now hardcore, processing dozens of photos a day and about to make some videos to share. via Trey Ratcliff on FB at ift.tt/1v05hWZ Snapchat: treyratcliff ift.tt/1qx3iMJ Instagram: treyratcliff ift.tt/1c7s6Uy
