I came across this old house travelling down dusty gravel roads I'd never been down before, on my road trip last Saturday. A nice little house in the middle of nowhere.

Ezra Cornell once said that idleness is to the human mind like rust to iron. So keep your brain active this week-end and don't let rust infiltrate your neurones!

I thought I would try a different approach to posting on flickr, so I can keep in touch with my friends (you) while not being on flickr every day. So I thought I would try to post 5 pictures at once, once a week, and see how it goes. Feel free to comment on all of them or not. If you don't have time, I understand. Have a wonderful day.

And don't forget, you can visit me at 500px.com/blue_iris.

See you soon.

When Your Lonely Heart Breaks (Live) · Neil Young · Crazy Horse

22/06/2008 - Neil Young al Nelson Mandela Forum, Firenze (FI)

Located in Oxnard California this local theatre has a rather interesting history, now an art moderne style theater that was built in 1929 and it is the oldest standing theater in the city of Oxnard. The Teatro ran first run films untill it started running Spanish language films in the 1960's and continuing doing so for decades until it finally closed in 1993.

It remained closed until the Teatro became home to producer Daniel Lanois El Teatro Studios in 1995. He turned the theater into a recording studio and worked on a handful of late 90's & early 2000's more interesting albums, including Bob Dylan's comeback album "Time Out of Mind" and U2's "All That You Can't Leave Behind".

Also In 1998 Willie Nelson and Emmylou Harris came to Oxnard to record "Teatro"

In 2007 The Teatro was purchased by Paul Sangster founder of Future Lighting, a company that provides large scale projection and projection mapping services.

In 2014 Neil Young and Promise of the Real moved into the Teatro to record The Monsanto Years. Promise of the Real is headed by Lukas Nelson, Willie Nelsons Son. The Teatro provided the perfect setting to the bands spontaneous garage rock sound:

The Teatro theater is currently available for Studio Rental.

Harvest is the fourth studio album by Canadian / American musician Neil Young, released on February 1st, 1972. It was the best-selling album of 1972 in the United States, and in 2015, the album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

Assessments by critics were not overwhelmingly favorable at the time, but recent evaluations of the album have been far more positive: in 1998, Q magazine readers voted Harvest the 64th greatest album of all time. In 1996, 2000 and 2005, Chart polled readers to determine the 50 greatest Canadian albums of all time – Harvest placed second in all three polls, losing the top spot to Joni Mitchell's Blue in 2000.

This was a beautiful sunset on my street the Monday before Christmas; the colours were just spectacular, and the mood was so dreamy!

Though we rush ahead to save our time

One of three ferries located in a 25 mile radius of Salem, Oregon.

The Buena Vista Ferry, with a capacity of four vehicles, operates five days a week from May through September, as water conditions permit. It is located just north of the confluence of the Willamette and Santiam Rivers just south of Salem.

Although it's operated by Marion County employees, the ferry boat operators are licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard. This ferry is funded by Marion County gas tax funds, user fees and the Oregon Department of Transportation.

I took this photo several years ago to use as an illustration for a story I wrote about the Oregon ferries ( I write a less than occasional column for the local weekly paper). The idea to write the story germinated after listening to an old Neil Young ditty - Cripple Creek Ferry - from his After the Gold Rush album...

"Hey, hey, Cripple Creek Ferry,

Butting through the overhanging trees,

Make way for the Cripple Creek Ferry,

The water's going down,

It's a mighty tight squeeze ..."

it's funny what we find for inspiration...

We've been through

some things together

With trunks of memories

still to come

We found things to do

in stormy weather

Long may you run...

Vintage Reserve Garage had a treasure trove of wonderful nostalgia when it closed permanently due to covid...hopefully, it ended up back on the auction block and not the local landfill....

I snapped a couple of candid shots as we hiked along enjoying the beautiful surroundings.

This Land Is Your Land · Neil Young · Crazy Horse

Writer: Woody Guthrie

I made this photo during his show at Beale Street Music Festival on April 29, 2016, when he played that wonderfully marathon version of “Down By The River” on the banks of the Mississippi.

This is Millie my daughter, I am going to see Taylor Swift play next month with her, and in December I am taking her to see Miley Cyrus play at the O2 in London.

I am really looking forward to it........not!

So Millie, this song is for you.

It's not Neil Young

subtitle: shadows

a nod to nevil and neil

on the beach

The world is turnin',

I hope it don't turn away,

The world is turnin',...

I hope it don't turn away.

All my pictures are fallin'

from the wall where

I placed them yesterday.

The world is turnin',

I hope it don't turn away....

I need a crowd of people,

but I can't face them

day to day....

Now I'm livin'

out here on the beach,

but those seagulls are

still out of reach.

Out of the blue and into the black

You pay for this, but they give you that

Once you're gone, you can't come back

When you're out of the blue

And into the black

Neil Young, "Hey Hey, My My (Into The Black)"

A shot of the Darmstadtium conference center in Darmstadt, I thought the lyrics from this great song just suited the colours.

Long may you run...

Hier, juste avant la pluie. L'averse fut forte et intense mais insuffisante pour contrer la sécheresse qui sévit déjà sur la région et sur beaucoup de régions du pays.

"Down the mountainside

To the coastline

Past the angry tide

The mighty diesel whines.....

Roll on, Southern Pacific

On your silver rails

On your silver rails

Roll on, Southern Pacific

On your silver rails

Through the moonlight..."

A few lines from one of my favorite Neil Young songs, "Southern Pacific".
