Native Masked Bee (Hylaeus (Euprosopoides) perplexus) female

A new genus Hylaeus for me today. It landed in front of me and stayed for about three seconds.

This is one of the native plants out front in my newly landscaped Florida friendly garden. It's not been one of my favorites they used, too big for where they planted it ... plain and boring ... UNTIL THIS WEEK! Look at these tiny little beauties. They look like itty bitty Orchids. So, I'm loving these little flowers this stressful morning!

Second time around: Moving this up this morning. Did a search for all my Orchid shots so I could include them in a new album. And saw this shot again ... one of my very favorites. This is a native Horsemint that was included in my first native remodel of God's garden. It's since gone me thinks. Working on the front again, hoping I can find this again. So I can remember ...

Another hibiscus flower in my backyard. FYI, I do not live in a mobile home park like the map says, I live in a house northeast of where I placed the image.

Fort Myers Yellow is often seen grown as a 4-6' high tree standard or braid.

Hibiscus is a genus of flowering plants in the mallow family, Malvaceae. The genus is quite large, comprising several hundred species that are native to warm temperate, subtropical and tropical regions throughout the world. Member species are renowned for their large, showy flowers and those species are commonly known simply as "hibiscus", or less widely known as rose mallow. Other names include hardy hibiscus, rose of sharon, and tropical hibiscus.

The genus includes both annual and perennial herbaceous plants, as well as woody shrubs and small trees.

Several species are widely cultivated as ornamental plants, notably Hibiscus syriacus and Hibiscus rosa-sinensis.

A tea made from hibiscus flowers is known by many names around the world and is served both hot and cold. The beverage is known for its red colour, tart flavour, and vitamin C content.

Another image from the visit to the Cabrillo National Monument yesterday. This is one of the native plants growing along the trails. When people think about California super bloom, flowers certainly come to mind, but it is not only flowers that are blooming. The succulent plants are also native here and while not as flashy as California poppies, they are beautiful.

I took 2 lenses yesterday, my wide angle and Helios44-2. I usually have one lens on for the hike to the end of the trail and put another one for the hike back.

Native paper wasps are smaller than European Wasps, and lack their vivid yellow markings. They tend to only be aggressive when defending their nests, and are otherwise beneficial insects to have around the garden.

Identification

Paper wasps have a small head, with medium sized eyes and medium length antennae. The body is slender, with a very narrow waist. There are two pairs of brown-tinted wings, with the first pair larger. The abdomen has some yellow/orange bands, but is mainly black. Recently, the introduced Asian Paper Wasp (Polistes chinensis) has been reported from several inner city suburbs of Sydney. This closely related species is larger than the native Polistes and tends to have more distinctive yellow and brown bands.

The native birds that come to visit us have been fairly scare throughout winter. Some rain early in the season greened the place up and food was a bit more plentiful. However, they are back now and this morning, the first of spring 2020 brought a smile to our face as a pair of galahs popped in for a feed. One sat back in a tree and kept a lookout while the other gorged itself, then amid thee flutter of wings caused by one of our local Magpies, they were off. This is the first time we have had galahs come by, despite their presence in the area, it's usually Corellas and Lorikeets. miners and magpies. And, well, the Wattlebirds yesterday.

Once again, an ID mystery! This very small, black and yellow bee, making its way along a dry grass stem, is very possibly a Fire-tailed Resin Bee. The only hitch is, I can only find images of bees which have orange-coloured abdomens. This one had a very definite golden-yellow tummy! I suspect the colour comes from the pollen that the little critter is carrying.

Another wonderful native carving that we saw when walking around the shops in Vancouver. I loved seeing all the carvings and artwork.

When I started out on my walk, the sky was overcast, but less than 15 minutes later, the clouds lifted and the light through the moisture etched in the world in details. Sliders help convey that moment as it appeared.

We planted this native Columbine last Spring and this year it flowered. They grow wild in local forests.

The force is strong. Spring is springing.

In Linkou’s “Water Buffalo Valley ( Yellow Cattle Grand Canyon )” in New Taipei City, Taiwan, I was fortunate to witness a rare scene — a herder taking his cattle for a walk. They only do this twice a week.
