A pair of Steel-blue Cricket Hunter Wasps circled my yard for several days. The only place they would stop was on the orange flowers of the Butterfly Weed.

They strongly resemble Blue Mud Dauber Wasps, which have a longer pedicel (the "stalk" that connects their thorax to their abdomen).

Butterfly Weed is a native plant species, and my favorite Michigan wildflower. Ironically, I have never seen a butterfly land on the flowers, although it does attract a variety of wasps and hornets.

Turtles are unable to regulate their body temperatures independently, so they are completely dependent on the temperature of their environment. For this reason, they need to sunbathe frequently to warm themselves and maintain their body temperatures.

The red-eared slider gets its name from the small, red stripe around its ears, or where its ears would be, and from its ability to slide quickly off rocks and logs into the water.

Red-eared sliders are native to the Southern United States and northern Mexico, but have become established in other places because of pet releases, and have become an invasive species in many areas where they outcompete native species.

The carapace of this species can reach more than 40 cm (16 in) in length, but the typical length ranges from 15 to 20 cm (6 to 8 in). The females of the species are usually larger than the males. They typically live between 20 and 30 years.

Pavonia lasiopetala is a species of flowering plant in the mallow (Malvaceae) family known by the common names that include Texas swamp-mallow, Wright pavonia, and Rockrose. It is native to Texas in the United States and Coahuila and Nuevo León in Mexico.

The Kererū is a key seed disperser in New Zealand as it is the only forest bird large enough (other larger birds are now extinct) to swallow the large fruits of some native trees. These same native trees are entirely dependent on the Kererū for the dispersal of their seeds:

Rhodanthe chlorocephala is a native Australian daisy belonging to the family Asteraceae. It is widely grown due to its attractive flowers and foliage, and because it’s hardy, adaptable and provides a good, fast ground cover. The flowers are long-lived and dry well. Rhodanthe chlorocephala subspecies rosea is the most widely grown subspecies and is commonly known as “Pink and White Everlasting”, “Rosy Sunray”, “Pink Paper-daisy” and “Rosy Everlasting”. It grows naturally in the south of Western Australia extending into South Australia. Rhodanthe chlorocephala subsp. rosea is an erect annual herb 20-60cm high with clumps of glabrous (hairless) grey-green stems and leaves 1-6cm in length. It has a large single flowering head at the tip of each stem. Flower heads grow to 6cm diameter, gradually decreasing as the flowering season progresses. The color of the bracts varies from deep pink (almost red) through pale pink to pure white, with a yellow or black centre.

Achillea tomentosa, commonly known as woolly yarrow, is a flowering plant in the family Asteraceae. It is sometimes kept as a garden plant, and occasionally naturalizes outside its original range of dry lowland habitats of southern Europe and (possibly) western Asia. 26258

Some day the earth will weep. She will beg for her life, she will cry with tears of blood. You will make a choise, if you will help her or let her die, and when she dies, you too will die.

(John Hollow Hern, Oglala Lakota – Indian wisdom)

Be tolerant of those who are lost on their path. Ignorance, conceit, anger, jealousy and greed stem from a lost soul. Pray that they will find guidance. (Elder wisdom)

I love nature as it is, without mankind changed or straightened. My heart beats for landscapes as I show them here, rough, wild and primitive. I hope with this series of pictures from Canada, to have conveyed just this character of the country, because that is my concern. It is also deep in my heart to honor the indigenous and original population of the "Wild West" with these images, because they are always forgotten. To wrong, as I mean. Their wisdom and courage must be honored and respected, as well as their justified concerns for their native country. Since I am child, I wear this in my heart and have now been able to fulfill one of my childhood dreams by visiting this wonderful country with its unique nature.

The brown-eared bulbul is a medium-sized bulbul native to eastern Asia. It is extremely common within the northern parts of its range and can be found from southern Karafuto to the northern Philippines.

A native perennial sunflower. Growing in Nottingham County Park, Pennsylvania.

The native bluebells are appearing in the local woodland - one of the highlights of spring around here :)

Many thanks for all the kind comments and faves - they're very much appreciated :)

Native Bee

As usual I am not sure which species of native bee this is.

I just liked how it was climbing down the blade of grass.

Happy Mother's Dy to all who celebrate today.

It will take me a while to catch up with your images. We are just home from visiting Di's Mum for Mother's Day lunch.

from my garden. The fingerling potatoes are Makah Ozette, which originate from South America via the Makah tribe in Washington. The wax beans are an heirloom variety believed to have been handed down from the Cherokee, one of the 3 sisters in the Americas, along with corn and squash

Found in the south west corner of Western Australia. This is a member of the T macrophylla complex and can vary from blue to white to pink. Tall for an orchid with a lovely perfume. The flowers will open if the sun is shining, especially on warm days. Flowers quite late in the season from November to January.

Marsh fleabane

These flowers grow in marshy damp areas and in spite of our extreme drought conditions, a few areas have some water (mostly artificially pumped in by humans) providing the right conditions for the growth of flowers. These grow from 2-4 feet tall

Dendrobium delicatum is an Australian native orchid, actually a hybrid of two other natives. This one was hanging in a pot under a tree when I bought my house in the Gold Coast hinterland. It was not in good shape. Repotting, relocating and disciplined watering allowed it to prosper. It is now producing multiple stems each spring, smooth, delicate and beautiful.

Photographed at Pelican Island NWR.

Sabatia stellaris is a native wildflower that can be found in moist, open areas throughout Florida and in one county of southeastern Alabama. It has five pink petals with a yellow center and a red outline at the base of each petal.
