The 64 lever Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Comany Tappet frame in Mytholmroyd West signal box. Sunday 7th October 1984

Mytholmroyd Station was located by the Up Main line at the Yorkshire end of Mytholmroyd railway station, and was a Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Company standard design fitted with a 64 lever Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Company Tappet frame that opened in 1904 replacing an 1875-built signal box. The signal box was renamed Mytholmroyd West in 1919 after an additional signal box opened named Mytholmroyd East 829 yards away. The signal box closed on 12th May 1985 along with Sowerby Bridge West signal box when the absolute block section was extended to between Milner Royd Junction and Hebden Bridge signal boxes although rising traffic levels in the 2000s necessitated the commissioning of intermediate block signals. The signal box remained in situ for a while but by mid-September 1987 the lever frame had been removed and the signal box was being demolished

Heading a York to Blaenau Ffestiniog excursion through Mytholmroyd early today is a West Coast Rail Class 47. As it was heading right out of the very bright, low sun, I could not get a very good shot.

I feel the whole "Pretty Gritty" slogan for Calderdale fails to do our lovely area justice but this image fits the theme to my mind. A century or more old building, stained with years of grime from when the valley buzzed with industry, overlaid with cheery bunting.

This 158 is seen arriving at Mytholmroyd, Yorkshire, on 1 September 2017 with the 12.14 for Leeds. This was a day of strikes on Northern Rail and it was a service that went only as far as Hebden Bridge before returning to Leeds, as seen here.

Once there were brackets on the pillars which supported a platform extension where the fence is now.

Bronica SQ-Ai w/ 80mm f2.8. Fuji Acros 100 developed in Ilfosol 3. Took two shots of this, one with mirror lock up and one without, probably around 1/15 of second for both. This is the mirror lockup version, it's insanely sharp. The other image is blurred to hell from mirror slap. Good thing the SQ-Ai has such a nice mirror lockup implementation compared to the ETR series!

The 13.28 service from Mytholmroyd to Manchester Victoria leaves on time with a three coach (plus a single 153) unit of Class 158. Probably about half the units on the Calder Valley line have been repainted in Arriva Northern Railways white and blue livery, the rest remaining in the old Serco-Abellio purple colours. None of the Pacers are to be repainted in view of their short expected working life. (Originally they were to be all withdrawn by the end of 2018, but that won't happen).

An unidentified Class 47 heads away from Mytholmroyd with 7M23 Jarrow to Stanlow empty tanks. 10/6/87. Breaks the rules this, being head-on, but there was no option from this bridge when the sun was out. You could go out wide to the left when it was cloudy but I seldom went to the spot under those conditions.

This was at Mytholmroyd Railway Station. A train approaches from the East.

It looks as though this narrow boat has had its hull repainted ready for the summer. Not sure how they got it out of the water!
