Gyaling and drum musicians at the Gustor festival, Spituk Gompa, Leh, Ladakh. The gyaling is a double reed oboe-like instrument used mainly in Tibetan monasteries (Ladakh is known as 'Little Tibet') that requires a technique called circular breathing in which the instrument will constantly be emitting a continuous tone, even while the musician inhales.

Kimonoyan live in Ashiya

It was about 5 degrees outside... as you can see, he didn't care

I was at an event last night at the Maine Irish Heritage Center and it reminded me of this older shot of 1 window in the re-purposed church.

Kimonoyan Mame chan キモノやん 豆

I was quite a distance from the stage it was very dark and filming wasn't allowed. The first time I heard the album "Entrance" in 1970 I was a 'fan' and finally got to see him in 2011. I just couldn't obey the rules. I was reprimanded by an usher, but instead of filming I was able to stealthily capture a few stills (with natural motion blur).

Fantastic musician.

The Music & Artists of Morocco

Wherever you travel in Morocco you are guaranteed to hear music. It is the basic expression of the country’s folk culture. Traditional Moroccan music is an important part of every day life, evident at every celebration and is most spectacular when it is seen live at births, marriages, funerals, religious gathering and festivals. Ancient Moroccan music can be found in the mountainous regions and is performed within Berber villages while in the cities there is a strong Arabic classical tradition, of songs and instrumental music brought by Arabs from the east and Andalusian Spain. Since the 1970’s Morocco has spawned indigenous pop (chabbi music), ranging from protest songs to dance music- sounds that you’ll hear blaring out of taxi radios, bus stations PA systems and in shops, cafes and restaurants. Visit any souk and you will find musicians playing and stalls blasting CD’s and cassettes of local music they have for sale. Festivals are the most rewarding as there is a wide variety of styles performed at them such as Berber, Gnawa, Jajouka, Chabbi, Griha,Moroccan Rap, Sephardic and Sufi.

I took this portrait of one of my work friends earlier this year. I thought it was too cute not to share.

for an indifferent audience

Tim, seen here finishing his piano playing. He's also a composer, an amazing singer, can play multiple instruments, and has perfect pitch (in that you can say a random note and he can sing that without a second thought).

took a trip down to San Diego California to photograph the Piers, beaches, Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo. busker pickin' old country songs on guitar in Balboa park.
