What's the Best Age To Start Music Lessons?

Here's an amazing fact: did you know that Brahms wrote his first symphony when he was forty years old? It's true.

Andrea Bocelli practiced law until his mid-thirties, and finally became a best-selling artist at the age of fourty-one.

It's a scientific fact that you become smarter the minute you start learning music. A 2003 harvard study revealed that the brains of adult musicians had a larger volume of gray matter than the brains of non-musicians.

Never picked up an instrument? Don't worry - a beginner piano or violin student can learn to play a simple song on their instrument in as little as one lesson.

You can start learning guitar, or singing no matter where you are in life. The most important thing is getting started.

his big brother gets to stay up a little late in order to practice violin -- so you can guess what the little brother asked to do -- he asked if he could stay up late to practice violin as well.

I was a musical kid. At about four years old I was sent for formal piano lessons (my mum refused to teach me!). I loved it. The magic of symbols turned into sound via a piano filled me with joy.

Here's Raymond practicing his guitar lessons. He started learning how to play about 3 weeks ago and loves it.... ahhhh...like father , like son! (So far the music is tolerable...)

The afternoon light has to be just right, which also includes the right time of the year. This is in one of the stores in the Chinatown courtyard. They also sell old cameras and other items that are hard to find these days.

This year, my students and I have been exploring the music of Jennifer Ecklund. This 13 year-old really took a liking to "No Limits", learning the "Revving Up" version in one week. He is performing the "Full Speed Ahead" version at a local music festival. Featured here is our choreography ideas for the finish.

When my student told me that he had never s̶e̶e̶n̶ noticed an arabesque before, I promptly searched for a sample to help him learn this study.

Impromptu music lesson, but this is not something you pick up in a few minutes.

The little boy tried the mouth piece first, then the chanter.

He did his best, but to no avail.

Ten out of ten for trying though.

More CANDIDS will follow as and when.

A weekday evening. The time gets sucked away by activities. Here I am posed to head out to guitar lessons, which run at the same time as my eldest sons drum lessons.

From there we headed to a sports store as yet my youngest son did not have the kidney protection he'd need to the Lacrosse evaluations that were scheduled for not long after music lessons. Lacrosse, btw, is rather new to me, but does look very interesting and I think I'll very much enjoy seeing him take on this sport, he too seems eager to learn Canadas' official national summer sport.

Then... oh then we'd have to find some supper as I had no time to cook... being between night shifts I was in bed till less than 1/2 hour before this photo... rush rush rush.

We did head for dinner after ... instead of going to "Bad Ass Jacks" (where I was planning on going for an Asian box) we went to a steak restaurant where we dined and by time we got home it was near 8:30pm!

Between getting home and 10pm I called hubby, then made sure the Lacrosse gear was ready for tomorrows scrimmage (as son did actually have some of his stuff missing today... gloves specifically). Too I had to ensure two of the boys went for a bath, and ensure lunches were packed and look through email as well as post this photo... sure, could have waited for tomorrow, but I wanted to do it today).

Now... I'm heading to the shower to get ready for work... look forward to next week when I may find more time for things like guitar practice, visiting others photos, watching a movie ... going bike-riding.... the 'down-time' fun activities.
