Gustave Caillebotte (1848-1894) - Canotiers [Rowers] (1877). In a private collection. Shown at the temporary exhibition "Cailebotte Painting Men" at the Musée d'Orsay, Paris, October 2024-January 2025.
The curators commented that "Caillebotte's style and framing give the men's bodies a solid physical presence, placing the viewer as close to them as possible, at a time when the explicitly sexualised figure of the oarsman was one of the preferred vehicles for expressions of female desire. (...) Water sports were known to develop a harmoniousmuscle sytructure, enhanced by the simple white knit (then seen as an undershirt).
This is a microscopic view of lab-grown human muscle bundles stained to show patterns made by basic muscle units and their associated proteins (red), which are a hallmark of human muscle. These lab-grown human muscle tissues will allow researchers to test new drugs and study diseases in muscle tissues outside of the human body.

This month’s LUGNuts build challenge was called Super 70’s Sensation...all about 70’s era automobiles. I turned 42 this month so I wanted to build something exactly as old as I am. I also wanted to build either a muscle car or a station wagon, so the logical choice was the ’71 Chevelle SS Wagon. Adorned in dark colors and a bit of attitude, this 42 year old classic is sure to be a crowd pleaser at BrickCon. But enough about me, the car is cool too!

Engraved plate showing human muscles, probably from a French edition of Andreas Vesalius De corporis humani fabrica libri septem, pasted into: Anatomy improv'd and illustrated with regard to the uses thereof in designing. (London: John Senex, 1723).
This volume of engraved plates and text was originally published in Rome in 1691, and was re-engraved and republished in London in 1723. The dissections were done for the Italian edition by Bernardino Genga, Professor of Anatomy and Surgery and physician in the hospital of San Spirito in Rome, and the explanatory text by the papal physician Giovanni Maria Lancisi (1654-1720). The book, designed for artists rather than medical students, includes plates of famous classical statues from Rome and is described as 'A work of great use to painters, sculptors, statuaries and all others studious in the noble arts of design'.
The English edition is dedicated by the publisher to Richard Mead, FRCP, FRS (1673-1754), 'a favourer of the politer arts'.
Part of the Anatomical Atlases in Special Collections & Archives, SPEC Anatomy 6. Cropped inscription on the titlepage, 'Tho. Dixon's Book 1799' and the pencilled name' Miss Annie Jackson, 19 North Street' on the front flyleaf, with pencil measurements possibly from a dissected skeleton on the back of the last (index) page.
The volume has had some plates cut out, but has also been grangerised with later anatomical illustrations pasted in.

Penso che non mi stuferò mai di scattare questo genere di auto-ritratto.
Inteso allo specchio impugnando la fotocamera.
Un semplice scatto, usufruendo della luce a fluorescenza appesa sopra lo specchio del mio bagno.
Questa settimana il mio Mac Pro è in riparazione. Ho fatto appena in tempo ad elaborare

Marilyn Thomas receives Miss Muscle Beach trophy from strongman Ed Hollycheck. She was overcome at victory and kept saying, "I never thought I'd win!" Shirley Kilpatrick, right, placed second and Barbara Thomason, left, placed third.
No -not California but Brighton, Sussex although I have seen similar in Santa Monica. This -obviously fit- gentleman stripped off his shirt and balanced on a post.
We were having supper together at the picnic table when we started coming up with ideas for this photo. We each decided to hold something in one arm that kind of tells how we got our home-grown muscles... haha
How'd we get our muscles? (muscle is a funny word...)

I love my sisters!!! They're some of the most amazing girls in the world!
Today I may have hit a milestone - I worked out THEN did my run.
It was kinda awful and I still feel like jelly.
I do HIIT workouts - 4 per week - 3 and one run per week when it's warm.
Since I hadn't seen any progress in a while and I returned to running last week, I decided to try something new. I could stop at any time if I felt it was too intense. I'm glad I stuck it out.
Jason Statham obviously ganked from the intarwebs...I have to add this one to my rotating desktop of encouragement.
