The Sittner Farm was added to the National Register in January 2008 and is located in Meadow, Perkins County.
The Sittner family farm, also known as the Sunny Side Stock and Grain Farm, is located in Perkins County seven miles northwest of the town of Meadow, South Dakota. The farm is considered a multiple resource agriculture district. Located on the farm are four buildings, three of which are contributing: the rammed earth house, and the wood framed livestock barn and hog barn. The machine shed is non-contributing. There is also a contributing structure on the property, a windmill. Construction occurred between 1918 and circa 1925.
The Sittner House (pictured) built 1918, a ten-room rammed earth and wood frame house, was built in 1918 by the Sittner family. The kitchen and upper level are both wood frame construction while the rest of the house is rammed earth, made of clay and straw, covered in wood siding. The roof is covered in asphalt shingles; the original cedar shingles are believed to still be underneath. Homemade plaster made of straw and mud covers the inside of the two-foot-thick walls while the outside is furred out and covered in clapboard siding. The house is a Gable and Wing type, which is not typical of German-Russian architecture. However, the layout of the spaces and materials used are what categorize the style.
John (Johannes) Sittner married Elizabeth Seidel in Odessa in 1899 and had three children before immigrating to the United States and settling in northwest South Dakota under the Land Act of 1820, which was the first time that allowed direct cash sales of land from the United States government to private landowners. Five more children were born in the sod house on the Sittner farm between 1909 and 1918. 1918 was the year in which John and Elizabeth built the ten-room house. The Sittner family built the house, barn, hog barn and machine shed themselves using varying construction methods. The house is made of rammed earth and wood construction, and the two barns are wood frame. The Sittner Farm is representative of the type of structures homesteaders built in Perkins County. It is a mix of ethnic construction methods and conventional agricultural outbuildings. Although there have been some alterations to all the buildings, collectively they retain enough integrity in setting, design, workmanship and materials to be eligible for the National Register.
She kept dressing in layers from the clothes in her closet, so I pulled out her summer clothes and put them in her dress up drawer. She loves to see how many layers she can put on!

I like the many shadows in this one. In the upper-right corner, however, you'll see my bathroom sink, which I tried to disguise by adjusting the brightness/contrast of the shot, but there it is. When am I going to get to use an actual studio? Hopefully in the fall, when I enter college. *gasp!*

Masked Up and Supporting Small Business in Downtown Baker City Oregon
Out exploring historic downtown Baker City, Oregon during the summer of COVID.
Baker City, Oregon’s historic downtown is one of the largest and most intact turn of the 20th century downtowns in the Northwest and is surrounded by historic neighborhoods. The downtown has been beautifully restored and revitalized over the years and is a vibrant and bustling district with lots of small locally owned shop. Throughout the year, the downtown hosts a number of festive celebrations and special events.
Even during this COVID Summer, business was brisk with lots of customers both local and visitors wearing masks and strolling the streets and visiting shops in small groups. Business owners have adapted well to the new normal and while working diligently to keep everyone's safety a top priority, seem to be adjusting to the new normal for small businesses in a COVID era
Visitors to downtown will find numerous art galleries throughout Baker City’s historic downtown including the Crossroads Carnegie Art center in the restored Carnegie Library building as well as multiple restaurants and a variety of gourmet and artisan food and spirits. And while shopkeepers are masked up they are visibly happy to greet and wait on customers who are also willing to follow the current CDC guidelines

This photo has more planes than you can probably count. I like the picture because it has almost a cubist look to it. This building is also in Buenos Aires.
